digi2pro: low volume, softvol & sample rate

Hi,

I just received and plugged in my Digi2 Pro with HifiBerryOS to my DALI Sound hub using the coax.

I was surprised at how low the volume was set when playing Spotify, after some digging and searching the forums I tried changing "min_dB -90.2" to -45.2 in asound.conf. In the webgui I changed the minimum volume to max, 70%. Is this the right way to do this? Will my edit of asound.conf survive upgrades?

 

I also noticed that the device was using softvol as mixer. Is this correct? I was under the impression that this would cause quality loss of the sound. Can I change this to use hardware?

 

Below doesn't seem right either, is there any way to set the sample rate higher? DALI Sound hub can handle more, and the Digi2 Pro too, it's one of the reasons I bought the Digi2 Pro.

Edit: is there a way to lock the volume, so it isn't controlled by e.g Spotify and my active speakers control instead?

  There is no hardware volume control as the Digi just sends the data without modification. If you don't want to use it, just set the volume to the maximum on Spotify (or in the UI) and don't touch it.

  Spotify delivers music data in 44.1kht/16bit. That's exactly what you see here. If you want to use HD music, you need to use other sources.

  Will my edit to asound.conf survive upgrades?

  We both know that especially guests or family, but also ourselves, will change a volume slider, be it accidentally or not. Should I have gotten the DAC, the analog signal to my amp wouldn't contain any volume level "control"?

  Thanks for the info about quality. I didn't know it could change dynamically! :)

  As this file isn't designed to be changed by the user, there is no guarantee that it will survive an upgrade.
  
  There is always a volume control in HiFiBerryOS - independent of the cards you're using.

  Is there a user-editable file that would survive upgrades?

  I maxed out the minimum volume control and got close to, for me, normal volume. There was a second control, but that was how high volume I could control. Or did I miss a different volume control?
