I've got a Digi2 Pro on a RPi4 with 4gb ram running RPi 64-bit OS. It has seemingly very random startup failures. Maybe every 3rd or 4th boot up, the Digi2 Pro will have zero output on the toslink port (no red light and no audio). I will power cycle a couple times and it will come back on. It's finally getting frustrating enough to see if there is any way to make it more reliable. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!!

HiFiBerry team If you're using a Pi4 HW 1.5, you need the latest version of the Digi2 Pro

Drhans I ordered a Digi2 Pro from an Amazon vendor and there is just a sticker on the board stating the it is HW 2.2 Is that the way it should be instead of the actual stencil on the PCB? Is there another way to determine if it is legitimately a 2.2 board?
-
HiFiBerry team That's perfectly fine. If you ordered it from an authorized dealer, it's fine. You can find the list of official dealers on our web site:

Drhans Is there another way to confirm that it is a 2.2 board because I'm getting the same behavior with the new board. The Digi2 seems to boot up and the red optical digital light illuminates, but once the OS is fully booted, I don't get any output from the optical digital port. If I keep rebooting, eventually it will stay illuminated. It only seems to work maybe 1 time every 4-6 reboots.

Drhans The vendor is claiming that the board I purchased from them is a legitimate HW 2.2, but I'm still get the failures described here: Digi2 Pro / Raspberry Pi 4 1.5 incompatibilities | HiFiBerry
Is there anything else I can do or just send the board back and give up this project?

HiFiBerry team It doesn't look like a hardware problem with the Digi2 Pro at all, as the board seems to start just fine (the TOSLink lights up).
What distribution are you using and what's the output ofaplay -l
-
HiFiBerry team BTW: Sporadic failures are often cause by poor power supplies.
-
Drhans Here are pics of my power supply and aplay output. My distribution is Pi OS 3.6
-
HiFiBerry team According to your aplay output, it looks ok. Could be a problem with your installation.
To test the hardware, I recommend to use HiFiBerryOS (https://www.hifiberry.com/os). It will detect the card and also show you if there is a compatibility problem. -
Drhans Ok, I installed the Hifiberry OS and changed power supplies. The OS states no compatibility issues but optical out still fails on every third or so reboot. Bad board or try something else?
-
HiFiBerry team My best guess is a poor power supply or a bad Pi. But that's just a guess. We can test the board here if you want to send it in.

Drhans I have two other Pi I can try. Do you have a link for what you consider a "good" power supply?

HiFiBerry team In our experience the official Raspberry Pi power supply works very well
