Beocreate - Static noise on optical (optical enabled)

Hi,
Been setting up a BeoCreate setup on a DIY 2-way speaker. Everything up until now is working great. We tried to connect the toslink/optical input to a computer to be able to send sound to the board, however we only get statics/noise/jitter when we enable the optical input and no music/sound from the computer at all.

We have tested the output from the computer to a different NAS reciever, and it works like it should. When connecting to the BC board it displays "active, not active" back and forth together with "playing, not playing". Static remains constant. Almost seems like what is a handshake issue when you use HDMI.

Any suggestions? Tried both the latest software update, and the experimental one.

  Did you connect it to the correct port? One should light up, that's the output. The other one is the input.

  Hi, yes - connected to the input (2 on your HW documentation) which is the closest to the barrel plug power supply connector.

  Ok, that's ok. Can you configure the output format on your PC? While it is unlikely, it's possible that it sends Dolby Digital encoded data.

  We did check this at the same time - it was set to stereo, but of course this is something we can double check. Any further settings to do on output sound format?

  Any PCM output format from 44.1/16 to 192/24 should be fine

  Hi, we tried this as well - but no luck. So, no further ideas from your side? I read that people that had optical issues earlier had success by rolling back software to older versions for example, is this something you can explain how to do? Or other things to try?

  I don't think this has something to do with the software as the SPDIF input seems to receive data. 
  If you want to try, you can find older releases here:
  https://github.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-os/releases
  
  I can offer to test the hardware here in our lab. If there is a hardware problem with the SPDIF input, we'll repair or replace the board. But it's hard to say from your report if this is a hardware issue or some incompatibility.

  Thanks, as I'm based in Norway there is quite some headache to ship it to you with export documents etc (not part of EU). 
  
  For my knowledge as I might not have the total overview - what are the alternative ways to connect a computer to the beocreate? There are no further inputs on the BeoCreate board as far as I know. I need to get sound onto the BC board to be able to run calibration and measurements from the speakers.

  We're also not within the EU ;-)
  
  If you're using a Mac, Airplay is the easiest way. There are also some Airplay senders for Windows, e.g. TuneBlade: http://www.tuneblade.com/
