Beocreate optical input with DSP toolkit and Raspberry Pi OS

I've finally got my Beocreate board running, with a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS. I'm using the beocreate-universal-10.xml configuration. It was a bit of a fight. The first time setting everything up, at some point, I got a lot of weird sounds on the speakers, when changing xml files. But now, it just works.

The only thing I can't get to work is the optical input. I've looked through the xml file a bit, and I see a bunch of SPDIF settings, but none for Toslink/Optical. Is there a way to get this to work? Ideally without resorting to changing settings by HifiBerry OS.

  It should be listed under "Sources". Did you enable it there?

  Listed under sources... What do you mean? Where would that be? I would have expected some command like

  dsptoolkit --toslink_input "on"

  or something...

  To be clear: On my Pi I have Raspberry Pi OS running, not HifiBerry OS.

  No, there is no such command. You should boot HiFiBerryOS, install the latest DSP profile and check if this is working.

  Alright. I tried this workaround. The input didn't show up at first, when I booted using HifiBerryOS. Apparently, this is a known problem and was supposed to be fixed, as someone from your team said here:

  https://github.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-os/issues/197

  So I had to use ssh from my computer, after enabling ssh in the Hifiberry OS settings:

  ssh root@beocreate.local

  After entering the password, I executed this command:

  touch /etc/hifiberry/toslink.feature /opt/hifiberry/bin/reconfigure-players

  After rebooting the Raspberry Pi, the optical input showed up.

  Now: New problem. I think there is a sync issue between the left and right channel, they're a probably 20-50 ms off, so everything sounds super weird. This is not the case when the sound comes from the RPI itself.

  Ideas?

  No idea, but it's basically impossible that there is a delay between the left and right channel. This would require a seperate (and quite long) delay element in the SPDIF input that's definitely not there. Unfortunately I can't say more what's causing it to be "super weird".

  Ok, I know what went wrong. I simply had the tv volume on as well, and the sound was not synchronized. Stupid mistake.
  So, I'm a step further. But there is a new, interesting problem. Now, when I use the YouTube app on my tv, the sound is perfect. When I use Netflix or Amazon Prime, there is a super loud, pulsing sound of just noise. Of course, when I use the tv speaker, it all sounds normal. Any idea what that could be?

  Your TV might output Dolby Digital via SPDIF. You need to check if you can turn this off and output plain Stereo PCM
