HifiBerry OS: spotify crashes and volume resets to 0%

Hello,

I installed the current HifiBerry OS version (from 20220228) for RPi 3B a couple of days ago. I use it mostly for spotify & radio. While listening to spotify, occasionally (roughly every one or two hours) the playback stops and I have to restart it. After restarting the playback, the volume is set to 0%. Is this a known problem? I guess that the spotify connection problem is out of scope but what about the volume changes? Where can I find logs in order to figure out what the problem might be?

Coming from volumio, I am really missing the option the fix the volume to maximum (or some other value).

  There is no fixed volume by design as each source is allowed to control the volume. Spotify seems to work better on some accounts than on others. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this as long as Spotify doesn't provide an official Spotify connect client.

  You might check the system logs, but you probably won't get any good information on your Spotify issue.

  I have now created a workaround by running a script that sets the volume to 100% every second and I did not have a problem since.

  This is in "/root/reset_volume.sh":

  #!/bin/bash
  
  while true
  do 
      amixer set Softvol 100% || sleep 10
      sleep 1
  done

  I start the script by calling

  /sbin/start-stop-daemon --start --pidfile /root/volume_reset.pid -b --make-pidfile --exec /bin/bash /root/volume_reset.sh

  Unfortunately, I could not figure out yet how to run this command whenever the system starts and therefore have to run the command manually. I already tried to start it via cron and tried to put it into "/etc/init.d/S50_reset_volume". Both without success. Can you give me a hint how to run the command on system start?

  HiFiBerry team what is stopping Spotify from providing an official Spotify Connect client? Isn't it HifiBerry who has to buy a license from them? I have no clue how this works.

  It's simple: They don't support any open source implementations. As HiFiBerryOS is open source, I don't expect this to change soon.

  Just came here to say Hans Mueller comment above worked for me. I had the same problem he described and the script was an acceptable fix. The down side is you lose the ability to control volume from spotify or hifiberry interface since the volume would always be at 100%. You will still be able to regulate the volume from your dac / amp.

  In other to make it start with the system, I had to add it make it a systemd script for it.

  I put the script in /opt/volume.sh

  (remember to set permission with chmod +x /opt/volume.sh)

  the I create a systemd entry for it in /etc/systemd/system/volumefull.service

  The systemd entry was like so

  [Unit]
  Description=Set volume to 100 percent

  [Service]
  Type=simple
  ExecStart=/opt/volumefull.sh
  
  [Install]
  WantedBy=multi-user.target

  The script can be started with

   systemctl start volumefull.service 

  You can then enable it with

   systemctl enable volumefull.service
