Large library

Hi all,

I am running a HfiBerry OS (v20220114) on pi 4B with DAC+ pro and have my library on a Synology NAS DS112. I have quite a large amount of files (63k) and have been updating the library for about 5 days now. I am fine waiting as long as it takes. I am unable to play anything but can see some artists and albums.

I have a few questions:
Has anyone dealt w/ a NAS library this large?
Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? ( I made an effort to resolve all my tags)
Are there any suggestions out there?
Will rebooting the pi help?

  Update:

  I have restarted hoping things would resolve.  The library is still updating  and I'm able to play songs intermediately, as in, the system is slow to respond.  I can play an album, let it finish and wait a few minutes before I can choose another.  I'm realizing that some of my tags are still needing updating so I will be working on that and report any updates.

  Still updating, I completed tagging (album artist and artist fields) and that has helped some, but the system overall is very slow to respond.  I will be looking into a different OS I guess. 

   

  I would gladly pay for Hifiberry OS if there was some support here.

  Hello Robert,

  I experienced the same problem with a much smaller library (indexed  a week until I found the root cause). In my case, it seems that ".cue" files (stored in some of my music folders) confused mpd when building the library. After deleting / renaming these *.cue files indexing worked speedy.

  I am not familiar with .cue files, but it seems they serve as directory for songs in larger audio files (the VLC media player recognizes them). Here is an example of the content of such a file:

  TITLE "la dérive au large"
  PERFORMER "Zentriert ins Antlitz"
  FILE "Zentriert ins Antlitz - la dérive au large (24b96k).flac" WAVE
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Zentriert ins Antlitz - Defense (Part II)"

  Hint: I found the problem while SSHing into my RPi and checking out the system journal with the command:

  journalctl -f

  I don't seem to have *.cue files in my library.  I moved to moode, and I find it is much more faster to load.

  Hello, I do have the same problems. I used Max2Play before, which acts very fast to the inputs via touch display. Also fast forward / backward is possible, which I didn't find at HifiBerry OS. BUT the problem is, that the power controller is only supported by the HifiBerry OS. That's the problem, why I cannot switch to another OS...

  I've been fighting this for over six months. Thought I was going crazy.

  RPI 3B+ with Digi+ Pro
  HiFiBerryOS v 20211105
  Source: synology NAS with large library

  Can most times see all albums and artists, but attempting to play yields no action 9/10 times.

  "Updating library" at top of screen is many times persistent, though not always.

  HiFiBerry team do you think you can fix the .cue file issue for the next upgrade? I had the same experience as Cugel's Adventures: after deleting the .cue files from the usb storage device, the indexing works fine (no more "Updating Library")

  If you have a clear way to reproduce the problem, you should create a bug report:
  https://github.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-os/issues
  
  The better the bug report and the easier it is to reproduce thr peoblem, the better are the chances that we can do something.

  Cugel's Adventures, I think for HiFiBerry team to reproduce the issue they can just put .cue files created with VLC Media Player on their storage and they will notice indexing issues. Do you feel confident to open an issue on their Github?

  Thank you all for this tip because I was having the same problem and so, while searching, I stumbled upon this post.
  
  It's still an issue with the latest? stable build, System Software 20230404 going by the stats I can see on the Hifiberry page on my install.
  
  I deleted the .cue files to see if that was the problem and it did fix the endless loop of trying to update the library. Perhaps I should give the ignore trick a try:
