I'm new to HiFiBerry. I have an RPi 4 linked to an Amp2. I hooked up a 24v PS and I['m worried about the chip temps on the Amp2. At low volume it runs about 52C. At high volumes it hits 89C!
I don't use a case, and the speakers are 8 ohm Celestion.
Is 89C OK for extended times?
24V is the absolute maximum voltage and we don't recommend to use this. Our recommendation is not to use more then 20V.
The current company website still shows 24v as within operating range. I guess I'm kind of an engineering type - is 24v OK or not? If yes, is the operating temp OK. If not, why publish 24 v as in the operating range?
Assuming 20V is my final outcome, what chip temp is acceptable at 20V?
As I wrote before, 24V is the maximum. Would you like to run a system at it's maximum? We don't recommend it. The chip itself is protected against overheating, if the temperature is too high, it will shut down.
There is no maximum outside temperature that we can communicate as the important temperature is inside the chip and you can't measure this (or read it out via software). As long as the amplifier outputs sound, the temperature is still ok.
