Will the just released Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W be supported with a full release of HifiberryOS, or the Lite version as for the original Pi Zero W?

I can't say anything at all. Today, it is not supported at all. As it is almost impossible to get ANY Pi at all, I don't expect that there will be support for this soon. Also the limited memory makes it hard to use it for us. While the players don't require lots of resources, the UI does. The missing Ethernet connectivity makes debugging very hard. Therefore, I still don't think it's a good system for an audio player.
Over here in Germany the new Zero 2 is nearly the only one you can easily buy ;-). I have it running nicely with the current Volumio 3 beta and it is performance wise doing very good. With Raspberry OS 64bit + Roon Bridge I could archive wireless Streaming up to PCM384/DSD512. Yes, bigger RAM and Wifi AC are sadly missing but for streaming clients in a good Wifi N environment it could workout nicely.
As you say, the UI with the Local Browser for HDMI output is probably consuming a rather large amount of Memory but maybe those more "optional" features could be turned of since many of us use the Hifiberry Streamer headless and only need the Webserver.
I would love Zero 2 support. I am currently using Raspberry Pi 3 A+ in a bunch of headless speakers that I plan on duplicating for some friends as Christmas gifts. The Zero 2 is virtually identical to the 3 A+ (same RAM and similar CPU) in my application and I would absolutely love to use it with some MiniAmps I just bought. It's only natural that I would want to also use HiFiBerry OS.
This definitely won't happen before Christmas - if at all. First it would need a buildroot version with hardware support for this, seconds we have to migrate everything to this release. While it might happen, don't expect this to be soon.
I have an pi zero 2 and a Hifiberry Dac+ Zero. I try to get it work, but I get no sound at all. I removed dtparam=audio=on from config.txt, added dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac to config.txt. The card is recognised by the system (aplay -l shows the card), but for some reason I don't get sound. Alsamixer also shows the card, but notions that there is no volume control Any ideas?
Yes, please add official support for Pi Zero 2 W.
I'm searching for a headless system to make a couple of speakers "smart".
Pi Zero 2 W is reliably cheap, so add DAC + Zero and Case and you have a perfect set!
I'll wait before buying DAC until the new Pi is supported.
While it might be cheap, it has a lot of the shortcomings of the old Pi Zero. Therefore we don't think, it's "perfect set". Note that even if we might release a Pi 2W version at some point, it will be untested and completely unsupported. We don't recommend the Pi Zero for the use with HiFiBerryOS.
BTW: There are other distributions available that work fine with the Pi 2W

Besides that, there is an integration with Home Assistant. I found your hardware and software on this forum.
You don't need to use HiFiBerryOS. We offer this as a choice to HiFiBerry users, but you can use most software that runs on the Pi. Our drivers are included in the official Raspberry Pi Linux kernel - every distribution that uses this will also support our sound cards.

My use case is very simple: build 4 "smart" speakers, that I could use with Spotify and Home Assistant.

For my project for other people, I ended up taking enough Pi 3 A+s out of service and replacing them with Zero 2s and random Pi3 B+s I had around, but I ended up with a couple of Zero 2s running a regular Raspbian Lite setup with a MiniAmp and DAC Zero on top with Shairport-Sync and they are working wonderfully.
One day, it would be cool to get HiFIBerryOS back into service for these two spots for the easy updating and management features, but they are working very well as they are.

as i decided to use a PiZero2W, I ended up with using Moode Audio, instead of HifiBerryOS, which is also great work.
I have to say I would really love to use HifiBerryOS again, because the UI is the best I have seen and it is sooo cool and intuitive even on my phone.
so if you need another one, to motivate you the last bit to give RPi02W a try, here you are :o)

since I have a couple of HifiBerry PowerControlers, I need to use HifiBerry OS, as it is not supported by any other program. And the Pi Zero 2W has the perfect size to be installed within a wall outlet.
More over, the DSP Board runs with HifiBerry OS only. So, quiete a couple of reasons, to use HifiBerry OS and the PI zero 2W is the perfect choice for a headless system, controlled by a tablet.

Hey Team, new user here. Been running HIFIBerryOS on my Pi4B (4Gb) for over a month and it's EPIC !!
Running a SHIM DAC which works a treat just plonked on the GPIO pins, and only used on Spotify Connect (wanna try Tidal Connect too), no local NAS drives or anything else, straight into an old Apple HIFI unit, and it sounds pretty darn sweet!
I figure that's barely stressing the Pi4 so just bought a new Pi Zero 2W to replace it and free up the Pi4 for something bigger..
However, from this thread I'm not sure if it'll work or not on the Zero 2W or struggle ??

Side note; Are these Pi's so similar in architecture that I can simply remove the SD card from a Pi4, plug it into a Pi Zero 2W and use, or we talking a re-install?

unfortunately it doesn't work with my Pi Zero 2W.
I hope, therwill be a version running on it in the future, then I can add tome more players to my home audio...

Must say, am super happy with the Pi4 running HIFIBerry - such a great lil system, reliable and simple. What's not to love :)
There is no support for the Pi2W today. As we can't even get one anywhere, this probably won't be supported soon.
In the long term we might drop Pi0 and Pi0 support as these are the only systems that still use ARM7 code

is there any progress on the support for the Pi Zero 2 support? I am sure many of your customers have some @ home. I would be highly happy if I could use your products also with your OS, even though I know its not optimal regarding the Ram usage, but I could always skip UI related resource consuming aspects. The PI Zero 2 runs very smooth with Volumio and other streaming OS, but I would definitive prefer a unified streamer landscape @ home using Hifiberry OS because of its usability.
No, there is no progress. This will require a rather massive upgrade to a newer buildroot version which is quite complex.
