I have an old sonos system which I'm looking to replace with HiFiBerry. My current set up is a home server (debian NFS or SAMBA shares) with my music as flac files, and good quality amp & speakers. I'm seeking to maximise audio quality.
Though I'm rather confused at the different available hardware. I'm thinking of purchasing the DAC2 HD and a DSP, plus case & power adaptor. Is that all that's necessary?

Sure, getting the DAC2HD and the DSP add-on is the best - at least for us ;-)
The DAC2HD is our best available DAC and provided the best audio quality. If you need the DSP add-on depends on what you want to do. If you don't need any equalisation or other DSP processing, you don't need it. You can still add this later if you're not sure today.
The best use for the DSP add-on is with HiFiBerryOS, the HiFiBerry measurement microphone and the room equalisation module in HiFiBerryOS. This allows you automatic accoustic optimisations.

A couple of further questions:
(i) Touch screen
As I understand it, to control HIFIBerryOS, this is via the web UI? (not a dedicated phone app).
I was thinking of using a pi touch screen. These have a pi directly connected to the back of it. Though the screen would also need a case. But the case would not fit a pi and dac2 and DSP and nor have easy access to the rca plugs of the dac. Do you have any suggestions how to do this? (Sorry, I know this is more a general hardware question).
EDIT: Or for touch screen, rather than direct connect to dac, would it be easier to use a dedicated tablet via wifi to hifeberryos?
(ii) Multi-room & Wifi
In addition to the dac cabled connection to my amp in main room, if I were to have another amplified speaker in the kitchen, I assume I'd need another hifiberry dac (could be more basic one), which would connect via wifi to router & I could control this via phone accessing the hifiberryos?

Yes, there is no "app", you simply use the web browser.
Some touch screen cases are big enough to also have the DAC attached, but you need to cut holes for the RCA jacks. There are also huge steel cases available from some dealers that separate the Pi and the touch screen.
You might google around a bit.
You can have as many independent Pi's with HiFiBerryOS running independently as you like. To support synchronous playback, a central server is needed with something like Logitech Media Server or Roon.

Is it possible to connect a wireless speaker (with internal amp) to the hifiberryOS? That is, the speaker connects wirelessly to router > hifiberryOS, rather than having to be connected to an independent rp & dac?
No, HiFiBerryOS only works with HiFiBerry sound cards.

I want to set up a sound system to play music, use spotify and radio websites, but I am not clear about the components I need since it would mostly be used to play music in flac format. My idea would be to connect it to a pair of passive 3-way loudspeakers with a supposed "100 watts" and an impedance of 8 ohms. Sure it is the maximum power peak but I cannot confirm it. The setup would be a rasberry pi 4 with the amp100, the operating system would use the HifiberryOs and a touch screen. The Pi4 will be connected by network cable.
Would this setup work for me? I also want to be able to equalize the sound. Do you need anything else?
This would work. For equalisation support, you would also need the DSP add-on.

Regarding my first post. Can the touch screen be any size? or is only the official rasberry pi compatible?
I have seen your HaT Dac + Dsp that maybe it could serve me, but it only works with active speakers?
The passive speakers that I mentioned in the previous post are very populable that they are in poor condition and we cannot fix them, they have been stored in poor condition for a long time.
