I have a player built from Raspberry Pi4, DAC2 HD and Aamp60. It was all working fine, running squeezelite over Raspbian 10. Then something went wrong, the SD card failed, and I had to build the software again. So far as I know, it is the same as it was before. The /boot/config.txt is set correctly. But the volume is very much lower than it was previously. There isn't a problem with distortion, just low volume. Other players continue to work normally. What can be wrong?

Martin Brampton With some reading and some experiments, but without much understanding, I ran:
amixer -c 0 cset iface=MIXER,name='DAC Playback Volume' 240dB
But I'd really like to know how the problem occurred in the first place. Any suggestions?

HiFiBerry team Your squeezelite was probably using the wrong volume control.

Martin Brampton Why would it do that? The volume control was working, just the output was in too low a range. I didn't do anything other than:
apt install squeezelite
And why would the result be different from other installs?

HiFiBerry team You can't except to simply install a package and have the correct volume control chosen automatically. Check your configuration and the manual page.
I can tell you that we did a lot of work on HiFiBerryOS to have the volume controls configured correctly for every card and application.
