rpi3 + DAC+ RCA + HifiBerryOs + stand alone dac?

I've been running a DAC+ rca w/ rpi3 and streaming via raspotify for quite a while.  I see now HifiBerryOS is live and also many new additions to the HifiBerry product line up.  I'm investigating AmazonHD and was wondering if I can use the DAC+ (in conjunction with rpi3) as a stand alone DAC as well?  

Ideally, I'd like to use both stand alone dac capabilities and still preserve streaming capabilities via HifiBerryOs use.  I read the article about possibly pairing it with a USB-I2S, but I'm generally confused about how I would set everything up.  Seems I can do one or the other, but not both.

  If you mean by "standalone" to feed a signal via USB - no there isn't anything. USB2IS2 wasn't as huge success and isn't available anymore.

  Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking todo.  Feed an iOS device into the rpi usb, then output via DAC+ rca to my headphone amp.  

  Seems the basic components and technical aspects are all there.  What is the limitation to having HifiBerryOS recognize a single rpi USB as an "input", and leave the others for USB hdd physical connect (or other).

  If you're already using an iOS device, you can simply stream via Airplay. That's definitely the easiest way.
  There isn't really any robust and feature-complete USB audio receiver solution available on Linux. We have been fiddling around with some software, but nothing really works well.

  BTW: If you iOS device is a mobile device, you wouldn't want to use this with a Pi as it also needs to be powered over USB. A sound card that consumes 5W might be no problem for a PC, but you wouldn't want this with a mobile phone or tablet.

  In the case of Amazon's "HD / UltraHD" formats, iOS devices top out at 24-bit / 48kHz.  Amazon suggests an external DAC to get higher sample rates of 96 or 192 kHz.   That said, Amazon's starting point with quality audio is *already* ahead of Spotify top tier.  Amazon doesn't have an API (yet?), so I think we're pretty far away from streaming UltraHD, but who knows :).  Looks like I'll make the switch, but need to find an external dac.

  Basically, I'm hoping to get to 24/196 max capability to match the Amazon UltraHD.
