Using a DAC + DSP with Raspberry PI 3B and HiFiBerry OS. When I change songs there is a pop/sounds like the output shutting off or on. Also occurs at the end of a playlist or queue.
Occurs over RCA or optical out to external DAC and when streaming from Spotify, Squeezelite, or Airplay (didn't test other sources).

Do you know how (or know of documentation explaining how) to turn off the optical input?
Check your power supply, it should have enough ampere. See for the requirements: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/power/README.md
When changing songs the CPU requires a little bit more ampere. If there is not enough you might get weird noises.
Thanks for the suggestion Johannes! My power supply is 3A, which I'm assuming should be enough.
I did once powered my RPI with the ChromeCast power supply (which is 500mA). This causes weird noises when changing songs. I checked everything but I couldn't find the cause. When I checked the startup log there was a log line about under voltage. I changed the power supply and it was fixed.

Mostmax: on your web interface ( http://hifiberry.local ) go to 'Sources', click on 'Optical Input' and turn it off.
Olsen, there is no 'Optical Input' option on my sources page, just the following:
Squeezelite
Spotify Connect
Airplay
Music
Radio
DLNA
OpenHome
Roon
Snapcast

Mostmax: Interesting. On a DAC+ DSP I really would expect an optical input. Have you loaded a DSP program (web gui: Sound / DSP Programs)?
Olsen, I have indeed: DAC + DSP Universal Version 12 (I also tried Version 11 but there was no difference).

It was marked as off when it appeared. I tried toggling it on and off and it made no difference. The pops are still there (it almost sounds like a cassette tape dub starting and stopping)....
Domenico, I've tried this and the pops/click are still there when using an external DAC.

I have the same issues happening on mine too, using a pi3a+ - dac+dsp...cracks/pops on startup and inbetween tracks when connected airplay from spotify (havent tried it any other way) really hoping for a solution to this as its kind of a deal breaker for me, its not exactly an audiophile feature lol
