Ultrasonic frequency response

Hello,

I am a postdoctoral researcher setting up an auditory neuroscience lab.

We already have a quite decent speaker and amp (ES1 and ED1 from TDT), so we only need an audio interface. So I thought a 192kHz DAC would work.

So I am thinking about using Raspberry Pi 4 with HiFiBerry DAC2 HD.

My question is,

Is the DAC able to play up to 90kHz without significant frequency response rolloff?

and apparently it's okay but the question is 5 years old and for another product.

I don't think I can use any cheap 192kHz DAC b/c I found out that many DACs have low-pass filter at 20kHz and doesn't have good compatibility with the Pi. Of course one solution could be the RME fireface which does have great frequency response but it costs $1300 and I only need one channel :)

So I hope HiFiBerry works!

  The DAC2HD rolls off earlier than 90kHz. It's frequency response is 10-40kHz at -3dB. The DAC2 Pro provides a more linear response at higher frequencies (which comes with more noise in this range, but that's probably not a problem for you at all).

  The DACs are optimized for best audible quality. That doesn't mean they should have a flat frequency response on non-audible frequencies. Different DACs require different filtering to perform optimally.

  I don't have a frequency response chart, but it should be relatively flat up to 80kHz.

  Interesting, I thought the more expensive one would have better FR. I'd stick with DAC2 Pro then. Do you have a FR for Pro model as well?

  Also I would use 8-32kHz range most frequently, sometimes spanning up to 64kHz. I mentioned 90kHz only because that's the maximum I would use.
