Amp2 and JBL XL1000 MKII speakers

Hi,

I use an Rpi3, Hifiberry Amp2 and HifiBerry OS to play my music (radio or AirPlay, 320 kpb MP3's).

The amp2 can be used for 4 and 8 ohm speakers, mine are 8 ohm. They're capable of 250 Watt, the amp2 can deliver 60 Watt I think.

Anyway...

The sound is good, very rich and clear, I'm suprised I can hear stereo-effects much better. So I'm very happy :-).

I'm trying to learn what all the audio specifics mean, so I duckduckgo a lot and sometimes read that using a not-powerfull enough amplifier can damage my speakers (especially the tweeters, apparently). 

 

Is there reason to worry? Is my setup a good idea, or would it be better to use smaller speakers?

  No, that's just fine. In general, Class_D amplifiers clip differently than "old" Class-AB amplifiers. Theoretically, clipping can result in high-frequency bursts. However, you will hear that the speaker distorts before something really gets damaged. And it it just doesn't sound good, a normal user would not further increase volume. 
  We run the Amp2 here with some really big speakers without problems.

  OK, that's a relief :-)

   

  How is it possible that such a small amplifier can accomplish this, while before one needed a quite big device to generate such sound?

   

  Small other question, I guess nothing to do with the HifiBerry Amp:

  The woofer surrounds are broken, so I have an unwanted buzz. I already ordered new ones to repair them. But it seems the buzz start only after half an hour or an hour and then gets louder. That's because the woofers or amplifier get warm or something?

  Modern class-D amplifiers work differently than "classic" class A/B amplifiers. By design, more energy is transferred to the speaker and less heat is dissipated on the amplifier. This allows smaller designs with smaller or no heat sinks.
  
  The buzz sound a bit strange, as this should not get louder with time. Unfortunately I don't have any idea what might cause this.
