I made a clean install from the latest release of HifiberryOS on the SD card.
Copied music files (previously used on the SDcard and worked fine) to a USB thumbdrive
When I update the library, not all artists are shown.
Updating the library from the commandline gave following result.
Checking things shows all the files in the folders starting from Dionne Warwick are been erased.
As this is a one to one copy and things worked before, I have no clue what's wrong.

this morning....i dont see any song on the USB-Thumb.
Putting them into windows PC still show some folders but not all.
Any Idea what is wrong? spend a lot of time already copying music but still so far can not enjoy it.
We've never seen this. Do I understand this correctly: You copy music to the USB stick, plug it into the Pi and when you remove the stick later, some files are not there anymore? What filesystem are you using on the stick?
Copy music on Usb-c thumb drive plug it into the Rpi.
Power on the Rpi. Update library starts. Not all music is shown.
Check the USB drive some folders are empty.( files has been removed)
The drive get corrupted aswell. Can not even remove the empty folders.
Everything it holds like 30gb of music files. Everything above had been removed.
Usb drive is formated as exfat.
As you can see in some screenshots overlay is 12gb and fully used. /data same thing
It's a bit strange that /data is fully used. My best guess is that it might have do do with the overlay file system used to mount the USB stick.
You can try 2 things:
1. Remove the USB stick and reboot. Then check the space on /data again. If it's still 100% we'll have to find out what fills this up as this isn't normal.
2. Try formating the USB stick with NTFS and check if this works better. the 32GB problem looks like some incorrect partition table or similar.

Formating the USB drive with NTFS is a lot of work. it takes more then 1 day to copy all music....and I've done it so many times already....

Yes. Delete everything, reboot and re-plug your USB stick. Then let's see if this get's filled up again.
i deleted the files in /data/library/overlaydir.
Re-plug the USB stick and reboot.
Library get updated.
/data/library/overlaydir stay empty.
Some files are deleted again from the USB stick. :(
What files exactly are this?
music files. FLAC files.
USB-stick contains folders by artists en subfolders by albums. Songs are all Flac files.
Some folders I can not open and contain Flac music files. (first folders..alphabetically ordered)
From a certain point I can open the folders but contain no files. Files have been removed.

Putting the USB stick in my windows laptop I get message that drive is corrupted and needs to be repaired, but windows can not repair the drive.
In this case, it looks like HiFiBerryOS can't deal with the formatting on your USB stick. Something seems to be wrong with this. My best guess is that for some reason it does not have a GPT partition table that's needed for file systems >32GB. Or it's a bug in the exFAT driver.

This morning I formatted the drive as NTFS as suggested and copied +40Gb on it.
This looks fine. Unfortunately I can't say if this is a bug or a problem of the USB stick. Is this a brand-name SD card from an official dealer? I'm asking because there are SD cards and USB sticks around that claim to have large capacity but don't really have this in reality. With these, you can write data, but you're not able to re-read this. That would be an explanation for your problem as I'm using a 256GB SD card here without these problems.
The SD card I used before was 200Gb Sandisk....

Ok, then it's probably not a fake stick. Unfortunately I can't say why the file system get's corrupted. I simply don't see this behavior here in our test lab. The same problem happens with exFAT and NTFS - did I understand this correctly?
yes both with exFat and NTFS
In this case I simply can't say why it gets corrupted. The only thing I could still offer is sending this stick to us and we'll try to reproduce the problem here.

I have 5V/3A power supply (Nokia) for the Rpi...This should be enough I guess.
This setup Isn't what I wanted...I wanted to keep things compact and portable but seems to work.
Is the Powersupply issuficient? Is it the Thumb-drive that's corrupted? (aswell as the SD card of 200Gb?)
I can not test the external HD powered from the Rpi though.
You mention you try with a SDcard of 256GB? That works fine? How much music is stored on the SDcard?
Again some folder are made in /data/library/overlaydir. But this time no files inside.
On the music folder the rights of all files has been changed to rwx------ with owner root.
This doesn't allow me to update the files from an external source or program.
