Hello,
I'm thinking of buying an amp2 for my old speakers which have no use but, they are 6 ohm. It's a pair of 2's. I know I could run them but I want one that is as good as it gets. So logically, you would need a power supply between the recommended voltage of 4 and 8 ohm. Am I right? And if so, will this improve the sound? If not, I would like to turn to an amplifier as long as it is natively compatible with the latest versions of volumio.
Best regards.

HiFiBerry team "As good as it gets" is almost always limited by the speakers. Distortions of amplifiers are usually MUCH lower than the distortions your speakers will create. Just go with 18V and you will be fine.

SuperHifiPi For you, what is the rate to spend so that the speakers are no longer limiting?

HiFiBerry team The speaker is basically always the limiting component - except you're using a poor amplifier. Amplifier non-linear distortions are usually <0.1%, while distortions of speakers are rarely below 0.5%.
However, distortions are not the whole story. A speaker with lower distortions will not automatically sound better. This is very complex. Ideally you try different speakers in the rooms you want to use it as interaction between speakers and rooms have a huge impact on sound quality. -
SuperHifiPi Thank you for such a quick response, so I'm leaving on an 18V.
