DAC+ Standard - ALSA error on VICE - RetroPie

I was wondering if anybody has been able to use DAC+ in Vice (the C64 emulator)

I have installed my DAC+ Standard in RetroPie, and it works perfectly with the Attract Mode frontend and every emulator except VICE which shows "VICE ERROR - sound initialization failed for device @alsa" and does not play sound. When I quit the emulator, everything works fine again.

There is a somewhat opened thread in RetroPie.org.uk regarding this issue but I only have one sound card

https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/7991/vice-no-sound-with-hifiberry

If I type

cat /proc/asound/modules

I get

0 snd_soc_hifiberry_dacplus

The rest of my configs:

etc/asound.conf

pcm.!default {
type hw card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw card 0
}

pi@retropie:~ $ cat /boot/config.txt

hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=9

# Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
# dtparam=audio=on
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus
gpu_mem_256=128
gpu_mem_512=256
gpu_mem_1024=256
overscan_scale=1

aplay -l
