I'm running an AMP2 on a Pi 3B+ with Volumio.
Whenever I increase the volume above about 35%, the audio will start cutting in and out. The higher I go with the volume, the more of the audio cuts out.
AMP2 is connected to two 6 ohm speakers. Power supply is 12v 5A.
This problem only started in the last couple of weeks. Previously, it had been working fine.
I'm experiencing the same problem - first time user though.
I'm using a 19 volt / 4.7Amp power supply. Somewhere around 30-40% power output the speakers clip out entirely. I'm using 8 ohm speakers.
Did either of you manage to isolate the cause of your issue and/or resolve it? I have similar clipping off with one of the AMP2's that I have installed.
David Archer It was a bad device. I returned it and got another AMP2 which worked fine.

Dear all, I do not think the issue is with the quality of the device. I have a AMP2 on a PI4 with Kodi and facing the same issue when > 60% . I am using the power supply MEANWELL GS60A18-P1J (60W) from the hifiberry site.

However, in the third case, the rpi says that the temperature stays around 65 degrees celsius . I wanted to test with a argon fan hat, but I read that there are issues with some pins :(

I have a similar problem. pi3b + Amp2 running PiCorePlayer (recent build). p/s 20V, 4A output.
2 speakers are 8ohm, polkaudio rc60i (60W).
Enclosed in a metal case
the system works at 40% volume. If I increase it marginally above 40% the audio starts to clip in and out.
the higher the volume the more the audio is out than in, at 60% volume there is no audio, just repetitive 'pop'
Denis Pitzalis, did you find a conclusion to your problem?
- is heating an issue?
- I have not tried removing the enclosure.
Hi Stephen J Walker I am pretty sure it is a problem with heating. I even get the issue on a pretty open enclosure like https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:993481.
Now I am running my Kodi out of the enclosure and I can listen to heavy metal full volume without a glitch.
As soon as I have some time I would like to test with the Argon Fan https://www.argon40.com/products/argon-fan-hat but it would be great if some engineer from Hifiberry could help with the GPIO issue.

My enclosure has a hole pattern for a small fan on one side. I left the unit in the enclosure and placed a strong desktop fan to blow air into the enclosure. The lid of the enclosure (previously felt warm) stayed cool. So I'm sure I improved the temperature inside the enclosure this way. However the volume issue persisted.
I turned the fan off to see if what was a stable volume level with the fan on turned into an unstable volume level with the fan off (to indicate cooling was important to retain stability) and the strangest thing happened. The audio speed dropped so that everything sounded like a tape being run at slow speed. How the heck does that happen!?
I then turned off the pi and removed the top of the enclosure (which holds the AMP2). I removed the AMP2 from the top of the enclosure and reseated the AMP2 onto the PI (without enclosure top). reconnected the speaker wires and turned the pi back on. Just like you I could then run at full volume without any glitches. (also did not use my fan in this case)
I was wondering if there is a grounding issue due to the enclosure top that's responsible, but your experience with that very open enclosure doesn't match with this hypothesis.
The difference with my setup and yours is that the AMP2 is not separated by a ribbon cable, it's still attached directly to the GPIO.
I might put a carboard box over the while thing and see if it heats up and gets glitchy.
