Problem with Beocreate software installation

Daniel from HiFiBerry asked me to post this here, as he is not able to solve this problem - one from B&O needs to solve this.

When I try to install the Beocreate 2 software the installation stops when I want to choose speakers (sound profile)

Can not select the CX 50 and type next.

Daniel asked me to do an SSH and this is the outcome

  Hi both,

  first of all, my apologies for the issue. I believe I've tracked it down – I can reproduce it with the current release version of Beocreate 2, and I've also created a fix.

  Daniel told me you have already tried applying the patched file to your system without it fixing the issue, but as I can't reproduce this issue anymore after applying the new file to the system, I want to make sure that you have grabbed the correct file and it's put in the right place.

  The affected file is /opt/beocreate/beo-extensions/dsp-programs/index.js and this is what we need to replace.

  The patched file is available right here: https://github.com/bang-olufsen/create/blob/2019-12/Beocreate2/beo-extensions/dsp-programs/index.js

  Click on the Raw button and save the file to your computer, then upload it to the previously mentioned path on the Raspberry Pi using preferred method – if you need guidance for this, just let me know. Remember to overwrite the old file. In the new file, line 381 should read if (currentMetadata) { which isn't the case with the old file.

  After this, reboot the system with the reboot command.

   

  Please let me know if you're still having trouble or otherwise require further assistance.

  sure, no problem.

   

  If you're on a Mac, this will get you through (if you're on Windows, just give me a heads-up and I'll translate the instructions):

  1. Open the Terminal application

  2. Type scp and before pressing Enter or anything else, drag the file from the Finder into the window, this will automatically fill in the path.

  3. Type or copy-paste the following to the rest of the line and then press Enter: root@beocreate.local:/opt/beocreate/beo-extensions/

  4. Next you'll be asked for the password. This is hifiberry by default.

  5. Now that the file has been copied over, you can log in by typing ssh root@beocreate.local and then type reboot to restart the system.

  Hi Rudi,

  you need to add a space after scp. Also, the path after root@beocreate.local should be /opt/beocreate/beo-extensions/dsp-programs/

  This was my mistake, sorry about that.

  Hi Rudi,

  you need to run scp in the Terminal before you SSH into the sound system. Also, if connecting with beocreate.local as the hostname doesn't work then, you can use the IP address in the scp command too.

  Then I managed to choose CX 50 and stucked in the next picture - pressing Use this sound preset and nothing happends

  Hi again Tuomas

  Now I managed to complete the setup.

  When you choose CX 50 in the picture a new picture shows up and one will presse "Use this sound preset" and nothing ...but you just need to close this window again and behind that you can press finish...a bit confusing.

  Ok, I am there now

  I have more CX 50 to update and do not want to go this long road. When will the software be updated, so I can just add the updated software to the SD Card etc ...

  Hi Rudi,

  good that you got forward with your setup. We will be releasing an updated image shortly (today or tomorrow) that should fix both of the issues you mentioned – the window is supposed to close automatically after you press "Use sound preset" and the system does its thing, allowing you to press "next step" right away.

  Consider also to mute the loudspeaker during power-up as a very loud bang is coming - well not good for the speaker but also people around ;-)

  Hi Rudi,

  with the current DSP program, the speaker should always be muted unless something is playing to it – which should mean no pops on startup either.

  You can verify that the correct program is being used by going to Sound -> DSP Programs (enable "Show Advanced Settings" first) and that at the top it says "Beocreate Universal version 8" with a checkmark. If not, you can click on "Beocreate Universal" below and select "Install This Program".

  It looks like something is wrong with the index.js file that was copied to the speaker – maybe it was damaged in download. The screenshot indicates that we are seeing just a static screen without any content being filled in (this is because the system won't load damaged files).

  To make sure I get the file to you how it's supposed to be this time, I've zipped it up and uploaded it to OneDrive for you: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiaL0BQrNsT3oEqQYhKtbaANeaTT

  Download it, unpack it, and upload it like previously. Then SSH into the speaker and run systemctl restart beocreate2

  After that, go into the DSP Programs screen. It should now list Beocreate Universal under available programs too. Click on it and select Install This Program. The different sound features should then be enabled.

   

  Again, verry sorry for this mess.

  Hi Rudi,

  this should be an easy fix, this is some aftermath of the previous situation (the system has to shuffle around the volume controls a bit).

  1. Reboot the system. You can do this via System -> Power.

  2. After reboot, log in via SSH and run alsamixer command. You should be getting an interface with two sliders.

  3. Whilst in this screen, if you adjust the volume in the web interface, the "DSPVolume" slider should move.

  4. If so, and the "Softvol" slider is not at 100, press right arrow key to highlight it and then up arrow key until it reaches 100.

  5. Press "esc" to exit alsamixer and type exit to exit SSH. Done.

  A long weekend in the sign of B&O... ;-)   Back in the late 80's and beginning of 90s I was in the development at B&O, so I felt nearly "at home" this weekend :-)

  I think I will wait for the rest of the speaker until tomorrow....

  Let's hope the rest will be smooth sailing – the new update is out now. You don't have to do anything on the speaker we just fixed, but for other speakers that you haven't installed yet you should download the new image from HiFiBerry.

  In the future, updates can be installed very easily in System -> Software Update. We put them out about once a month with fixes, improvements and new features, and there are some cool things in the horizon.

  Trying the next speaker and need to replace the index.js file here as well (stopped at the speaker selection)

  The name of the beocreate module is Beocreate.local but the IP adresse changed

  Hi Rudi,

  did you download a new image from HiFiBerry? This should be fixed in it. You can verify the version number by logging in via SSH and typing 

  cat /etc/hifiberry.version 

  The version with the fix in it is 20191124.

  If you need/want to proceed with the manual fix, in Finder, select Go -> Go to Folder, type ~/ssh/ and then click Go. A folder will open and you should see a file called known_hosts in that folder. Open it up and delete line 9, or where you see "Beocreate" mentioned. This allows the command to work again.

  good that it's working.

  the version number on HiFiBerry site showed an old version number but the image should be correct and it should show Software Release 20191124 in the "about" section (if you scroll down in the leftmost screen where the product image and name is shown).

  If you still needed to patch it, I think it must be gremlins – the file in that release should be exactly the same as the one you used to manually patch it.
