HiFiBerry DAC+ADC plays but will not record

Daniel,

I bought a HiFiBerry DAC+ADC and installed it on my RPi 3B+.  It plays sound but does not record.

aplay and arecord identify the DAC+ADC card.

pi@raspberrypi:~/Downloads $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dacplusadc], device 0: HiFiBerry DAC+ADC HiFi multicodec-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

pi@raspberrypi:~/Downloads $ arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dacplusadc], device 0: HiFiBerry DAC+ADC HiFi multicodec-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

When I run alsaloop there is no looping of microphone to speaker.  I am using a Sennheiser e835 S dynamic microphone with an XLR to 3.5mm mini-jack cable that fits into the socket on the HiFiBerry.  The DAC has great sound quality, but I bought DAC+ADC to be able to record sound.

When I run alasloop I get the following:

pi@raspberrypi:~/Downloads $ alsaloop
underrun for playback hw:0,0
underrun for playback hw:0,0
underrun for playback hw:0,0
underrun for playback hw:0,0

Do you see any obvious problems shown by my aplay and arecord configuration?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
