A random Pi zero W killing AMP2's ?

I've built a whole house audio setup. currently 7 different PI's and hifi berry products. The boards in question are the AMP2.

I had an amp2 and pi zeroW in my kitchen, it started making poping noises. The speaker drivers were bottoming out like their outputs were being driven rail to rail..... and than silence.

I swapped in only a new pi3b+ i just got, but nothing... swapped out the AMP2 with a spare. Perfect function!

i take this "broken" AMP2 and test with original zeroW and a spare zeroW, new PSU and different speakers. No sound on either.

Ordered a new AMP 2 board. On the spare zeroW i have working sound! Hurray. Do to config reasons i would like the original zeroW in the kitchen... so slap the AMP2 on it.... now... nothing!

Maybe a bad pi? No worries put it on the spare zeroW... but now it has no sound either!

Further debug info. has a 12v 60w psu, driving 2 4 or 8 ohm speakers. Both LED D1 and D2 are lit. Alsamixer can see the board. Volume set to 50% all mute/gain settings toggled with no change. The streaming software is dumping pcm data into the sound interface (not sure the correct terms) as it runs on boot, and it reports no errors(also ran manually to confirm). All 3 boards mentioned running raspbian stretch. below is the only items i see from a " dmesg | grep pcm"

this matched a currently running good setup...

I have a full bench of Test gear and can poke and probe around and grab wave forms, voltages, values, etc... but knowing some suggested steps would be a good time saver. A schematic would be amazing but i fully understand not letting those out. Maybe a config file i could reflash?

Or id be happy to send both AMP2's in along with the pi zero W that appears to damage them... as long as i get some root cause analysis back :)

P.s. my other 4 AMP2's, mini amp, and dac+ have all been running great and i love the setup!
