DAC+ADC causing external amp to overheat

I have a Raspberry Pi with the DAC+ADC.  The output goes into the line level input of my NAD C326BEE amplifier.  I was playing the music for about 5 hours at 20% volume and the amp was continually overheating and shutting off momentarily.  It would come back on and play music again after a few minutes.

This does not happen with any other inputs including a turntable or an echo dot running for hours.

Is there some kind of software tweak I can do here?  Or is the hardware possibly sending too much voltage(?).  Not sure of the right terminology.
