BTW: If you add any additional stuff to the system, you should put it onto the /data partition as the system partition will be replaced during upgrades.
There is no info in API docs how to give file path to play command. Also thanks for /data partition tip.
There no no "play" command or file path. Audiocontrol just handles the communication with players running on the system. If you want to build something that plays files from a NAS, you need to configure MPD and control this using the MPD API.
I've just installed version 20191124 following the WiFi setup instructions and it works great. The only thing is that I can only log on with ssh with the root user - it doesn't seem to have other users i.e.: pi enabled.
There are no other users. In general, you should not need to log in via command line at all. SSH will be disabled in the next release by default, but you will still be able to enable it when it's necessary.

Daniel
I've flashed another microSD card - bigger capacity - booted on the same system and went through the installation steps. Everything worked fine except now the volume is incredibly low - I'm using AirPlay from a Mac Mini. I've tried re-applying the Beovox CX 50 sound preset and Beocreate Universal DSP program but it doesn't work. Switching back to the previous microSD card restores the sound. Any clues of might be causing it?
Check the volume settings under "Volume limit" and the main volume.

Daniel
No deal - I did check it before.
I've uploaded the diagnostics info from that image to Google Drive:

Anyone have any luck getting a rotary encoder to control volume on the Beocreate?
I wonder is this documentation still valid for the latest Hifiberry OS
https://github.com/hifiberry/audiocontrol/blob/master/doc/rotary.md
@Henry: HiFIBerryOS does not support any rotary control at the moment as audiocontrol was replaces by a new version that doesn't have a module for this integrated.

I've cloned the microSD card with the working installation, put on a second CX50- which was running the previous version of the software, Beocreate 1 - and got the same results. After fiddling with the settings for a while I've discovered that the Beocreate Universal DSP program is causing the volume output to be really low, almost inaudible. Switching the program to Generic makes the volume work as expected but the sound is noticeable different.
Any ideas why this is happening? Is there a way to "factory reset" the Beocreate 4 channel amp board?
I just had a look at your debug file. Look like for some unknown reason softvol is turned down. You need to login via SSH and then run the command
alsamixer
and put softvol up to full 100%

Ok cool, I have been using the volume in music apps and in the os through a browser. But every now and again I loose connection to the Pi and can't change the volume. My router is also not in a place where I can connect it by ethernet unfortunately.
is there any type of hack you would suggest, like connecting a USB keyboard to the PI, or something else perhaps?
Cheers,
Henry
You could use this:

So.... both CX 50 are working now. Changing Softvol via alsamixer as suggested didn't work.
In the end, I've got an idea from this post https://support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360008520217-Problem-with-Beocreate-software-installation and downloaded the whole /opt/beocreate/beo-dsp-programs directory from the working installation and uploaded - overwriting - the same directory on the other unit. After this, I just reapplied the profiles and everything mysteriously/happily worked.
I'm not sure what happened exactly but I hope it will get fixed in the next release. In the meantime, I made copies of the microSD cards with the working images.
Thanks for your help!

I was thinking about the remote a bit, but I would prefer to use a wired connection if possible. Is there a way to control the DSP Volume in Alsa Mixer via a USB keyboard for example? Is there a way of setting keyboard inputs in Hifiberry OS through ssh?
I will add a physical volume control to the Pi/Beocreate at some point and I'd like to make it as reliable as possible. I think there are a few other Beocreate users who are also interested in adding physical volume control to the setup.
In general a keyboard should also work. The wireless remote control that we sell just acts as an USB keyboard. Therefore you should be able to control the volume with the cursor up/down keys.

I had a try with a USB keyboard but the volume did not change using arrow keys , +/- keys or pgup/pgdwn. Is there another key combination that you would suggest?
I am running the newest version of HifiBerry OS on a PI4 but I am having some problems with bluetooth and volume control through a browser.
Pairing works fine, different devices can connect to the Pi and recognize it as a bluetooth speaker. But there is no sound, even if softvol and dspvol are increased via ssh/alsamixer I cannot hear any playback.
The volume control slider in a browser using beocreate.local does not change the volume at all, I have been using the system with the optical input and changing the volume via ssh as a temporary solution.
I was originally using a Pi3B with the same version (20191121) of the OS and the beocreate.local volume slider worked in this case, so I'm wondering is there some difference in functionality between the Pi3 and Pi4 Hifiberry OS.
Is there some way to save the volume level to the Pi or the Beocreate board? Whenever I reboot the device the volume resets itself to 16 on both softvol and dspvol. Also if I remove the Pi from the Becoreate board the volume resets to a low level.
Cheers
Henry
Hi Henry,
Volume should be saved automatically if it changes.
What DSP profile do you use? Did you try to apply the DSP profile again?
What system do you use for Bluetooth streaming?
Best regards,
Daniel
Hi Daniel
I am using the CX50 preset. I have tried switching presets this seems to have no effect on volume or bluetooth functioning.
I have tried a windows 10 laptop and an Android tablet so far with the bluetooth, both pair but no sound output.
I have noticed that the browser volume slider does change the softvol in Alsa mixer. dsp vol resets itself to 16 each time I reboot and is not affected by browser volume slide.
Is the dspvol supposed to save between reboots?
Cheers,
Henry
Hi Henry,
About the Bluetooth issue: Please post a bug report here:
https://github.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-os/issues
Note that BT audio is a bit of a "nice-to-have" feature and we're not experts in this. Therefore I can't say if a specific problem can be fixed. Report as much information about your exact system (especially the BT sender) as possible.
You may be right with the DSP volume. It is possible that the volume gets restored before DSPToolkit is running. In this case, it will still use the value stored in the DSP. I'll check this
Best regards,
Daniel
Hi HiFiBerry Team!
I have just installed your OS. I play all my music with Spotify. (Digi+ - Khadas TB - Densen B100 - Triangle Comete)
I tried several OS: Librelec, DietPi, Volumio, Moode, Archphile and PicorePlayer.
I always went back to Volumio; not the best sound but the more stable.
Best sound was obtained with Archphile but Spot plugin was not stable.
Hifiberry OS sound very close, very similar, to Archphile.
Music has the same effect on me: "Waaaaaaah!..." (in french!?)
...with stability!
Great job! That was all I needed!
Thanks for the custom OS! I spent hours dinking around trying to get my setup working (Airplay through an Amp2 on a Pi 4) and tried HiFiBerry OS just to see. Bam, up and running immediately.
Question: Are there any future plans to add some audio controls such as equalization? I've got this installed in a 1929 radio cabinet so the sound is not ideal - I'd like to tweak it a little bit.
We plan to implement some equalization in one of the next releases. However, these will require a DSP. Therefore, this will be limited to the DAC+ DSP and the Beocreate amplifier.
Hi JPL,
Your post, https://support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360002058097/comments/360001214438 is very useful., I'm seeing te same issue on a CX100 - now if I just hadn't deleted the old SD card. Were your original files from the working install coming from a previous version of Hifiberry OS, or the even older beocreate 1 project?
@Crilles: What exactly is the problem in your setup?
Hi HiFiBerry team,
My problem is low volume on a set of CX100 after migrating from beocreate1, to the latest HifiberryOS image, as seen by JPL. I tried to review the softvol setting as advised in https://support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360002058097/comments/360001210197, but it is set 100% already.
I have also been reviewing the various limiters, but everything seems reasonably set, and I have not tinkered with them since the install. I even redid the install to be certain.

Hi,
Did you re-install the DSP profile?
Best regards,
Daniel
Hi HiFiBerry team
I found this thread:
The symptoms on my system were the same, I.e. not able to read out volume.
I reinstalled the "beocreate universal", read the volume to 0.0032, and set it to 0.9 as advised on the thread.
Best regards,
Crilles
