Beocreate Beovox CX100 - Roon Endpoint

Hi there - love the Beocreate idea, and have vintage Beovox CX100 to play with.

I use Roon for music streaming and do have multiple Roon endpoints. Would love to build a CX100 wchich works as a standalone Roon endpoint/active speaker.

What is the ebst approach? Will I be able to set up the Beocreate board with a RPI and the Beocreate software, and then swap the code to DietPi / Roopieee, or will I have to feed digital out from a RPI/HiFiBerry Digi+ out to teh digital Beocreate in?

  Hi,

  swapping the SD card after installing the software should work. Alternatively you could also install the Roon Linux client on the Beocreate system.

  thank you for the fast reply! Sounds promising ;-)

  Just for my understanding:

  • I need the initial B&O software install to apply the correct DSP settings for the CX100?
  • Once set, these settings are permanently stored within in the Beocreate board - and the B&O software is not nedded anymore?
  • Therefore I could swap card?

  My favourite ROON endpoint distribution for the Pi is RoPieee http://www.ropieee.org/ .

  They list in their hardware compatibility http://www.ropieee.org/audio_hardware/ :

   

  • HifiBerry AMP/AMP+
  • HifiBerry DAC/DAC+/DAC+ Pro
  • HifiBerry Digi/Digi+/Digi+ Pro

  ... but not the Beocreate. Will it still work, selectig eg.g "HifiBerry AMP/AMP+" in the RoPee setup - or what is your suggestion?

  Hi,

  you have to use the HiFiBerry DAC driver. Note that RoonPi won't be able to control the maximum volume via the DSP as the Beocreate software. Therefore you might have to reduce the volume A LOT as full volume might be very loud.

  So I might give it a try and order the board. Any idea how to solve the "very loud" issue?

  There are some options:

  - The RoonPi developer integrates native support for the Beocreate board including the DSP tools that allow to set the volume directly on the DSP
  - You install the DSP toolkit by yourself and add a small script that sets the volume on startup
  - You create your own DSP program (based on the CX100 project from us) and set the maximum volume directly in the program to a level that works well for you. This will require the use of SigmaStudio on the PC.

  Ok, I can confirm that RoPiee work with the HiFiBerry DAC driver on the Beocreate board. In Roon you need to select "DSP volume" as the volume control.
