i feel like this must be obvious. If I have two fully built units - digi+ and dac+ each attached to its own raspberry pi, how do it get the signal from digi to dac? Does the dac have toslink or coaxial in?

HiFiBerry team Hi,
the DAC+ does not have any SPDIF inputs. I'm not sure what you want to do. Why do you want to connect a Digi+ with a DAC+?

james keuning The goal is to play music from a streaming service, like spotify or squezebox. I assumed I use the Digi for that. The music will be played through self-amplified speakers, I assumed I needed the Dac for that. I suppose I am getting that wrong based on your response!

HiFiBerry team Hi,
you can just use the DAC for this. Both the DAC+ and the Digi+ are basically sound cards for the Raspberry Pi. The DAC+ has an analoge output that you can connect to your active speakers, the Digi+ has a digital sound output that you can connect to devices that have a digital input (some active speakers, AV receiver or external DACs).
So you only need to install the software on the Raspberry Pi with the DAC+ and connect this to your speakers.
Best regards,

james keuning Thanks. This is my first raspberry pi project. I guess I have not familiarized myself enough with the functions that the raspberry pi performs.
