Sporadic failure on the right channel

Hello everyone,

I'm using the Hifiberry Dac+ on a Pi 3b+ and Moode Audio. Connected to an "old" Onkyo Stereo Receiver R-811-RDS.

For about half a year, the right channel has been failing sporadically (red RCA plug). I have already tried another amplifier and the problem persists. I also tried a different cable, problem remains. Likewise with other speakers, so I suspect the fault is with the Pi or the Hifiberry. I can solve the problem by taking the red RCA plug and plugging it into the white port. After that, you can hear a sound from the right speaker. But if I then plug the red plug back into the red port, the speaker works again for a while. I also occasionally hear a scratch on the red channel.

Do you have any idea what this could be?

  Might be some problem with the solder connection on one of the RCA jacks. If you often plugin and remove the RCA jacks, there is mechanical stress on the board that can result in this. If the boar is still under warranty you can contact support@hifiberry.com and we can chekc it in the lab.

  Hello, It's stranger than I thought. As a test, I swapped the Hifiberry DAC for a Hifiberry Digi and also swapped the receiver. At first, everything worked as expected, but since today there's no signal on the left channel? Connected via a coaxial cable. I've reset Moode. So it can only be the Rapsberry? I'm pretty confused 😕

  Sounds like a software issue to me. As left and right channel are transmitted on the same GPIO, I would not expect this to be a hardware issue. I recommend a fresh installation on a new SD card. SD card corruptions can result in all kinds of crazy bahaviour.

  Edit: Maybe it is also the volume control / potentiometer of the "new" system
