HiFiBerry DAC2 ADC PRO w/ RPi5 Questions

Hello.

I have the above stack. My use case is to capture microphone data, digitize it and send it to OPUS codec and stream it to AWS using FFmpeg. I have a microphone input coming into J4. Scope verifies strong signal level on L- and R-. Given I am VERY new to this community I have a few questions:

1. reading documentation on gpio usage has lead me to believe the digital stream is available as PCM data on the Pi header. Is this correct? If so do I have to do anything on the DAC2 Pro card with respect to loading software or commanding software over the I2C interface that seems to be the link between the boards?

You don't have to care about the low-level hardware interface (it's a bit more complex than I2C as it involves different things for control and audio data). The DAC is a ALSA sound card. ALSA is the standrad audio interface on Linux.

Basically any software that can deal with audio data on Linux uses ALSA. I'm not sure if FFMPeg has integrated ALSA support. If not, you can use tools like sox or aplay/arecord to create a data stream with audio data that FFmpeg can process.
