beocreate v1.02 works, v2.1 not [SOLVED]

Hi

I upcycle good old speakers using beocreates (bc4) with quite some success. So thx for the bc4!

I use sigma dsp profiles, that I write to the eeprom of v1.02, using standard procedure:

1. remove JP6 (selboot)
2. Attach raspi and boot it
3. send profile
4. Test it using some full range speakers on all channels
5. shutdown raspi (sound throught toslink OK?)
6. remove power and raspi
7. Reattach selfboot jumper power and
8. Re-test (sound always still OK? Yes for v1.02, No for v2.1 [there is no selfboot jumper for v2.1 though)

Why is this?

  Update:

  I guess, Hifiberry's documentation could be wrong and/or misleading:

  This "https://www.hifiberry.com/beocreate/beocreate-doc/beocreate-hardware-documentation/" clearly states:

  "1    Selfboot – With this jumper set, the DSP always loads it’s program from the onboard program memory. Always keep this on, except you want to program the DSP with your own tools. This is not uses anymore on board release 2.x"

  Here "https://github.com/hifiberry/hifiberry-dsp/issues/48" is a statement that opposes above:

  "It's not a "workaround", but expected behavior. The selfboot jumper must be set. Otherwise the DSP isn't starting. Removing the selfboot jumper is only needed for specific development tasks (when creating your own DSP profile using SigmaStudio)"

  ... and here "https://www.hifiberry.com/docs/software/re-flashing-a-dsp-board/" it is stated:

  "  1. Remove the Selfboot jumper from the DSP board.
      2. Power off the Pi and disconnect power
     3. Re-connect power and start HiFiBerryOS
     4. Write the DSP program to the board using the UI (you can also use dsptoolkit from command line if you know how to use it).
     5. Set the selfboot jumper again
     6. Power off/power on"

  So: It looks like the selfboot jumper should be set. Now on to warranty: I read somewhere (can't seem to find it for the time being), that soldering on a hifiberry voids warranty. True? If, is there a clip on or otherwise solderless jumper?

  Update

  Every single BC4 v1.02 works flawlessly:

     Writing profile 100%

     Selfboot 100%

     Checking memory through sigmastudio 100%

  Not ONE SINGLE BC4 V2.1 doe:

      selfboot without a Pi installed. Some come up with a pi installed: I guess the Pi sets the selfboot pin on BC4s GPIO (see below)

      Checking memory through sigmastudio  

      Some v2.1 do not even allow booting the pi, others do, but sigmatcpserver lists errors for "link compile download" and "write to selfboot memory"

  Hifiberry: We got a problem! I am sitting on some 20 BC4 v2.1 that I cannot use like this:

     some are without selfboot jumpers installed (Warranty?)

     Those few that have selfboot jumpers, just won't selfboot without a pi installed

  How to proceed from here?

  I am tented to set BC4 V2.1's on the pi header GPIO #22  selfboot with a jumper cable. But: to what reference: 5V, 3.3V something else? I guess it should be 3.3V. So: Can I get the 3.3V (or other) from BC4's GPIO pin #10 and wire it to the pi headers pin #22 and get selfboot for standalone usage?

  Hifiberry: I need your help on this.

  SOLUTION:

  Daniel just answered to watch write speed: SPI write speed should not exceed 1MBit/s. I Set it in Sigmastudio to 1000kHz (was 10000). wrote my profile at said 1000 kHz, rebooted my V2.1 BC4 and : VOLÀ: Sound is there! I might reduce it even lower.
