Hello all, 

 

I received my setup yesterday, RPi3, amp+, 18volt power supply, etc. Assembled & burned their new Roon image to the sd card. Started roon playing at around 7 last night, left it on roon radio, its now 8 in the morning, so 13 hours straight, still playing. Sounds really good, missing a little bass, but it is only a 25 watt amp, so I expected that. I am very impressed. Also, fyi. the roon image just works, no config, unless you want wifi. Seconds after plugging it in, I saw a new Roon Ready endpoint in the Roon Setup screen, enabled and gave it a name. Started playing instantly.

  I have AMP+ in one of my Roon configurations and it really has a surprisingly pleasant sound for 25W Class D. There seem to be however some interesting issues with driver I do not fully understand. I mean... it is working an all, but while DAC+ and other Hifiberries have normal volume curves - they are audible at around 15, AMP+ volume is silent till 50 and too loud at 75. So very logarithmic in nature. Also no mute. Why is this? Can this be addressed somehow?

  I am using DietPi/Roonbridge combo. As I could not figure how to set up WIFI with your Roon image. :/

  Hi,

  you need to login to the system and configure it by hand. You need to edit /etc/network/interfaces and create the necessary wpa_supplicant.conf file:

  Neither  login as "root" with username "raspbian" or "pi" with password "hifiberry" gets me in your raspbian-lite image, roon 1.1 image is locked I read. I am aiming for those nice icons... do I have to go roon image or can I install roon raat over your rasbian lite for the same effect?

  Hi,

  you can login to our Roon 1.1 image. If you're installing Raat by yourself, you won't get the HiFiBerry icons.

  BTW: Password for the Raspbian image is still raspberry for user pi.

  Roon can't "see" that device. Has no problem seeing others... Any suggestions? :/

  Is the sound card configured? Is the network up und running?

  Yes on both. You image correctly recognizes the card, my router sees the device.

  Check if the Roon software is running.

  I think, I remember that the 1.1 image had a bug. Try the newer 1.2.1 image:

  Works like a charm on ethernet now! :)

  2 things I imidiately notice is:

  - having Hifiberry AMP+ and DAC+ mixed environment... group volume control is now much easier, albeit it has decibels for DAC+ and numbers for AMP. :)

  - If one of endpoints stops, others resume playing (after stopping) automatically. Same goes for endpoint that comes back up. Nice.

  Working on WIFI now. :D

  I have literally spend whole day to get WIFI working. Nothing.
  I have 2 adapters that identify themselves as Realtek RTL8188CUS.

  I can get them working under ARCH linux, but not Rasbian. Help. :D

  Hi Bor, the Realtek drivers might not be included in Raspbian. The easiest dongles to use are the official Raspberry Pi WLAN sticks. These are based on a Broadcom chipset.

  Somehow I got WIFI working... :)

  To clarify that: it was not a driver problem. It is the editing of files in raspbian I guess; you can' just nano the file and write in. It worked better for me to edit outside and copy in the whole thing. Dunno why, but it was the culprit of my 12 hour Linux for begginers maraton. :)

  
  I need to make 10 images now, is there an easy way to reset unique identifier for Roon? If I only clone image, cloned ones do now show up as new.

  Hi,

  you need to remove the /etc/uuid file and then clone the SD card. A new UUID file will then be created on each system on the next boot.
