Geoff Coupe Does this support WiFi, or is it an Ethernet-only Roon Endpoint? Thanks.
-
HiFiBerry team Hi Geoff,
it also supports WiFi. You need to enable WiFi by editing the config file wpa_supplicant.conf on the FAT partition. Add the following lines:
network={ ssid="Your SSID Here" proto=RSN key_mgmt=WPA-PSK pairwise=CCMP TKIP group=CCMP TKIP psk="YourPresharedKeyHere" }

transfers I just want to check how this works. This loads on the Pi, but I presume that you also need to load the appropriate server version on your server, and pay the Roon fee for that? Can we test this at all without installing and paying for Roon?
-
Geoff Coupe Yes, of course you need to install a Roon Core package on a Mac or PC. See here for the different software packages in the Roon architecture.
And you can test Roon in the 14 day free trial. You can cancel at any time during the 14 days, and it won't cost you anything.

Grant Venner Hey guys,
Just wanted to check if the WiFi option you mentioned is actually supported on the RPi3? Everything works fine with Ethernet, but I cannot get the RPi3 to join my wireless network using the config lines you've provided (editing wpa_supplicant.conf on the FAT partition & substituting my details into the ssid & psk lines).
Also I cannot login to the Pi to investigate further, as none of the normal username/password combinations seem to work for this Roon test image.
Many thanks!

transfers Thanks Geoff for clarifying.

Duncan Rolfe Thank you for the Roon Image - installed and a RoonReady endpoint appeared in about 10 seconds on my network.
I'm using it with the Dac+ Pro - connected directly to some Meridian Active Speakers (M3100)
A couple of points:-
1. Can it remember the last volume when it is powered on - currently it defaults back to 100%
2. Playing a 352.8Khz/24bit file or a DSD files crashes it and I have to power it off/on again to reset.
Nice work,
Duncan
-
HiFiBerry team Hi Duncan,
thanks for the feedback. I will see if we can store the volume somehow. 352kHz playback and DSD playback shouldn't be supported at all, I have to check what went wrong here.
Best regards,

Geoff Coupe Some useful observations made in the Roon forum by Rene Bouwmeester:
Thinking about it – why are these distributions so obese? (IQAudio's is 1,93GB, while HifiBerry's is 1,56GB). I think these certified distro's could do far better:
- Use a nice and sleek, custom built minimal distro (<50MB should be possible, and then some – maybe @danny can help here);
- Make it all run from RAM (look at what PiCorePlayer is doing here), minimising the chances of card corruption at improper shutdown;
- Offer a simple webpage for basic configuration options:
** Networking/Wifi
** OS updates
** HAT selection (if needed)
These would really be of service for anyone not able or caring to configure their Pi with Roon Bridge themselves, and be truly bullet-proof. Sideloading wpa_supplicant.conf in /boot with no way of troubleshooting when your Pi does not perform as expected kind of defeats the purpose of a ready-to-run image.

chardad Hi,
I installed the Roon Image. It works well. Thanks.
What is Login ID & Password for Room Image? I try several candicates, but it dosen't work.
I want to add wifi setting at conf file.
Thanks,
-
HiFiBerry team Hi Chardad,
we're currently working on a new image that fixes some bugs. There will be a settings file and we will also integrate WiFi later. As the whole system image has to be certified by Roon, we can't allow users to change it. Therefore we can't publish passwords. If you want to help us with the image, get in touch with me by email ( just use the support@hifiberry.com ).
Best regards,
Daniel -
Duncan Rolfe Using the latest roon-1.0.1.img file with the Digi+; it still crashes if you send it a 352k or DSD file. But now the zone reappears after about 2 seconds.
Still have to rely on the Max setting to force it to down sample to a max of 192 which stops the crashing.
-
HiFiBerry team Hi Duncan,
you're right. We already identified this and the new release that should finally fix this should be out tomorrow.
Best regards,
Daniel -
wakajazz roon-1.0.2 working great so for with a RPi3 + Digi+. Excellent work! How close to obtaining Roon certification?
-
Stuart Beraha Sorry, for a very basic question, but without a password, is there anyway to shut down or reboot the RPi running this image? I generally prefer to shutdown before removing power to reduce the chance of corrupting the disk image. Should I just not worry about this?
Thanks,
Stuart -
HiFiBerry team Hi Stuart,
there is no way to shut it down. However, as there isn't a lot of writing to the SD card going on, the risk of corruptions is very low. As the system is basically stateless, even in the extremely unlikely event of SD card corruption you can just write a fresh image to the card.
Best regards,
Daniel -
Stuart Beraha Thanks, Daniel.
By the way, I note that a competitor just set their password back to the default "raspberry" on their Roon-certified image -- you may want to check if Roon really require the image to be locked down.
Thanks again for the help.
Best,

HiFiBerry team Hi Stuart,
as the documentation for RAAT is under NDA, I don't see why a normal user should login to the system. There is nothing that can be changed by a normal end user.
Best regards,
Daniel -
HiFiBerry team The latest version with a small bug fixes is now available at http://downloads.hifiberry.com/images/room-1.0.3.img.zip
Best regards
Daniel -
Stuart Beraha Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the response. This is obviously your prerogative, but I don't believe the fact that the documentation for RAAT is subject to an NDA means a normal user shouldn't be able to log in to the system; it doesn't appear that logging in would expose the documentation. In any event, I will just return to using my manually created image in order to regain the ability to shut down or reboot the system, or to do things like install shairplay-sync on the same system as Roon Bridge...all within the grasp of this less-qualified-than-normal user!
Thanks again for the responses.
Best,
Stuart -
john.reekie Hi Daniel, there is a typo in the 1.0.3 download link, should be http://downloads.hifiberry.com/images/roon-1.0.3.img.zip
John
-
HiFiBerry team Hi John,
you're right about this. I will correct it.
Our 1.0.3 image is now also certified by Roon. With the next update of the Roon software you should see it as a certified device.Best regards,
Daniel -
Bert Kolthof "Our 1.0.3 image is now also certified by Roon."
Congrats and keep up the good work. Really enjoying the Pi/Digi+ combination. Especially with an upgraded PSU (Sbooster).
Best Regards,
Bert

Carl Kesselman I am also having problems getting the wifi to work correctly on a RPi2. Worked fine with when I used regular image and installed RoonBridge myself. Unfortunately, there seems to be little diagnostics that I can do on this.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Carl -
HiFiBerry team Hi Carl,
we will look into the WiFi configuration again. However, this will take some time. In general we have had a lot of problems with the stability of the WLAN connection with the onboard WLAN interface of the Raspberry Pi 3. Therefore I would still recommend a cabled connection.
Best regards,
Daniel -
Carl Kesselman Thanks. To be clear this is on a Pi 2 with a USB wireless adapter. It works fine with a Jessie Lite distribution installed using your image download tool.
-
RBM Nice! ;-)
-
Roger Kjønniksen HI!
Have just assembled pi 2 and a dac + pro and installed your img. 1.03. I have my server running on a linux machine. Have experienced some loss of connection to the server, and have to physically power down the pi to reconnect. You should consider giving us the password to the img to make it possible to investigate the problem. Beside the loss of connection it's a very exiting solution :-)

Matt I've been using the Roon image for a while and it's working great. It's a lot more stable over wifi than my previous setup with Raspbian and the RoonBridge application.
One question: Roon shows that the processing chain includes a DSP volume control in the Pi. If the DSP is set to 0.00Db, is the output still bit perfect?
Thanks
-
Duncan Rolfe I can confirm with my testing the output is bit perfect when set to 0.00db
How did I test it....Playing a MQA encoded file outputted via SP/DIF to my Mytek Brooklyn. When set to 0.00 the MQA light appears - change to anything else and it goes off. Signal has to be bit perfect for MQA to be decoded .
Hope this helps.
