2 pair of 6 ohms speakers

Hi,

 

I'd like to connect 2 pair of 6 ohms speakers on a single Amp+.

Connecting them in paralel would result in a 3 ohm total impedance, which is bellow the recomended range (would it damage the amp ?)

Connecting them in serie would result in a 12 ohm total impedance, which is above the recommended range (would lack power ?)

 

As a side note, the amp is powered in 12V with a capable power supply, and will most likely never be used at high volume.

 

What would be your recommendation for this setup ?

  Hi,

  the situation is not optimal. If you really need 4 speakers, I would recommend 2x8 Ohm in parallel. With 6 Ohm you have to connect them in series which might have an impact on the linearity.

  Sadly, I have to deal with those pair of speakers that are already in place.

  We are talking about 1 pair of Kef Ventura5, and another one of Ventura6.

  What would be the risk/problem of wiring both in parallel on a single Amp ? Again, it won't be used at high volume.

  Hi,

  while it might work at lower volume, there is a risk to damage the Amp at higher volumes. We do not support it. You might try, but we can't guarantee that it will work. If you want to be on the safe side, connect them in series. Note that connecting different speakers in series (or parallel) can result in different volumes as different speakers have different efficiencies.
