There's a post on the Roon Labs Community about a RoonReady Release Candidate SD card image for Raspberry Pi. Any thoughts about creating a similar image for HifiBerry cards? I'd be happy to test it.

HiFiBerry team We will look into it. However, this can take some time.
Best regards

Geoff Coupe I'd be very interested in a RoonReady HiFi Berry Digi+ - I think it should allow me to connect my Denon AVR into Roon.
-
Andrew Harman Sure would be great if HifiBerry could do the same. I'm sure there would be tons of demand for it...

HiFiBerry team Hi,
we will look into Roon. However, there is a very simple method to integrate a HiFiBerry board into a Roon installation - you only have to use PiCorePlayer (I guess Max2Play) will also work.
Check out this guide from Hanz Beekhuyzen:

Kjartan Bergsson Inspired by Hanz, Im using raspberry pi 2/digi+ with piCorePlayer as a Roon endpoint. It works very well and sound quality is much better than I dared to expect. My next project will probably be a raspberry with hifiberry dac, also using piCorePlayer, for another room in my house. These are great products at humane prices.

Geoff Coupe Roon Labs has now released Roon 1.2, which includes full RoonReady support. Looking forward to being able to swap out the PiCorePlayer software on my RPi2 + HiFiBerry Digi+ for a proper RoonReady environment. Hope that you guys are working on it...

HiFiBerry team Hi Geoff,
what additional features compared to PiCorePlayer do you expect?
Best regards,

Geoff Coupe The ability to group zones together to play the same music simultaneously in the grouped zones, for one thing. I can't include a Squeezebox endpoint in a Roon Group. It's an individual endpoint that can't be grouped with other zones.
I think having a certified RoonReady endpoint would also give me other advantages, such as remote volume control, and possibly support of top-end audiophile formats, but these I need to investigate further.
It appears from a comment in the Roon Community forum that there is RoonBridge software available for this combo, so I'll try it out.

Geoff Coupe I used the HiFiBerry installer to install Raspbian on my SD card, and then installed the RoonBridge software from Roon Labs as instructed here: http://kb.roonlabs.com/LinuxInstall
It is now a Roon networked device. It recognises the Digi+ and plays back up to 192 kHz files. It works well.

Johan Nimmersjö I used Raspbian Lite for an RPI 2 with Dac+ Pro, also works well.

Roger Corman I easily got the Roon endpoint running on a Pi 3 and Dac+ Pro. It's so good that I made two of them, and am ordering parts for more. I want them in every room. Note that the Pi really needs to be connected via ethernet as there is a lot of uncompressed audio streaming to it--it doesn't seem like there is much buffering going on. I haven't been satisfied trying it with wifi.

Andrew Harman Roger, if you have a 802.11ac router, I've had great success using an Edimax EW-7811UAC 11AC Dualband USB Adapter with my RPi2. I get 433Mbps (max USB2.0 speed), which is plenty of throughput for high-res files with no dropouts. It's also nice because it comes with a USB extension cable that moves the device and antenna away from the Pi.
Here's how to install the drivers for Raspbian:
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80256631/install-wifi.tar.gz
gunzip install-wifi.tar.gz
tar xvf install-wifi.tar install-wifi
./install-wifi 8812auI use my RPi2 as a Roon Labs RAAT endpoint. With this wifi dongle and a Digi+ modded to direct connect an external 5V linear power supply it's a pretty ideal streaming solution.

Roger Corman Thanks Andrew I'll look into that. I do have an ac router.
