Presenting the HifiBerry Mini

I'm proud to present the first (?) HifiBerry Mini.

Inside my HifiBerry jukebox  is:

Raspberry Model2, HifiBerry DAC+, 1Gb Harddisk, Samsung USB CD/DVD optical drive, PiHub and external 5V 10A power supply (the original PiHub 5V 3A was to low). It's also easy to change a SD card and switch the Raspberry off after a normal shutdown (by the HDMI Kodi interface). I also use the Kodi app to control the jukebox with my iPhone.

The HifiBerry DAC+ and the Raspberry are now together powered on the 5V port of the HifiBerry itself. First, I've tested  the USB mini power connector outside the mini, like you see on the inside photo's. I know the risk to power it directly but I don't like an outside extra power cable.

It sounds superb! With Kodi it's also easy to rip my whole CD collection onto the internal hard disk.

My next project will be building a HiFiBerry DAC+ Mini and keeping the original back intact of my second Mac Mini. I also want to use the original power off switch with a Mausberry power down option. Or are there better idea's to switch it off with a normal shutdown script with Openelec?

  Hi Ronald,

  this looks really cool. The CD drive is the original drive from the Mac Mini? I like the SD card extension. Where did you get this from? I had expected stability issues with long cables to the SD card, but it seems to work in your setup. 

  You can also shutdown the Raspberry Pi from Kodi, however, it does not turn off the power.

  It's a 10 cm SD card extender cable from AliExpress named CY -10cm-Micro-SD-TF-Memory-Card-Kit-Male-to-Female-Extension-Soft-Flat-FPC-Cable.

  The external power supply 5V 10A is also from AliExpress and is very cheap (7 euro). Perhaps there a better solutions but for this jukebox and together with the PiHub it's works fine.

  Indeed I shut down the Raspberry from Kodi but when I later switch the TV on, Kodi also popup because it's connected with HDMI/ARC. Therefore I switch it extra off from the back.

  Btw: its a WD 1Tb HDD instead of 1Gb that is underneath the PiHub.

  I do not use the original Mac mini Toshiba optical slot drive because its very powerconsuming (5V 2A) and it has a micro PATA connector. You also need a extra PATA - USB converter. Instead I use the Samsung SE-B18ABRSSD optical drive with a mini USB connector. Minor problem is that the CD read speed is now a little to high but it seems to be easy to slow it down with a driver setting.
