I want to use my DAC+ to integrate my old-school analogue Hi-fi system with my home Airplay network, and I'm wondering what I need to do to achieve this? I've got OwnTone installed on my Pi 3B and this works fine with a static MP3. However, I'm not sure how to replace this with a stream from the DAC+. Has anyone out there got any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you want to do. Do you want to read audio from an analog input? In this case you would need a DAC+ ADC or DAC2 ADC Pro. A "normal" DAC+ doesn't have any input.
Unfortunately I can't help with the configuration of OwnTone. We never experimented with this.
Thanks for getting back to me. It's the DAC+ with two RCA input sockets, so I assume that's reading audio from analog input. As far as I can tell, OwnTone can read from a named pipe, so I think all I need is a solution that receives analog input and writes it to a named pipe.
There is no DAC with "RCA input sockets". These are outputs.

Yes, the DAC+ ADC and the DAC2 ADC Pro offer an additional line input (the phone jack).
OK, thanks. Just to clarify: is there a software solution that would enable me to take the input from the phone jack and stream it to a named pipe?
The simple tool "arecord" should be able to output to stdio and pipe this to some other tool. Have a look at the manual page.
Thanks. Final (I think) question: the amplifier in my hi-fi system has a couple of pre-amp outputs - would these be the right thing to connect to the HiFiBerry input?
Yes, these should work. Note that pre-amplifier output usually have a variable output level that's controlled with the volume control. For a fixed level output check if you have some "TAPE" outputs (or have a look at the manual of your amplifier).
