Hi,
I'm a Raspberry Pi newbie, just bought my first RPi 2B and set it up as an openELEC media centre. I am thinking about buying a Hifiberry DAC+ or DAC+ light to improve the sound quality, so I need to decide whether I need the "integrated volume control". Does the integrated volume control work out of the box, i.e. if I use a USB remote to control the RPi, would the volume buttons on that remote be linked to the DAC+'s volume control? Or would they only connect to the software volume control? As I said, I'm a newbie so I would prefer not to do too much configuration, so if it's difficult to use the hardware volume control I'd rather get the DAC+ light.
Hope that makes sense! Otherwise let me know and I'll try to clarify what I mean.

HiFiBerry team Hi Kristina,
as far as I know OpenElec does not support ALSA volume controls out-of-the-box. Therefore the DAC+ Light should be ok for you.
However, I also don't know if an USB remote control will work out-of-the-box with OpenElec or if it needs additional configuration. An alternative to this is using a smartphone or tablet with one of the available remote control applications for Kodi. These work very well.

kristina Thanks Daniel, that's good to know. My smartphone works fine as a remote but I'm gonna try a cheap USB one anyway, hopefully that will also work (otherwise no big deal).
I am also running Raspbian with Mopidy (dual-booting using NOOBS), would that OS be able to use the volume control? -
HiFiBerry team Mopidy has support for ALSA volume control, but can also use software volume control. It will work with both the DAC+ standard and light.

kristina Thanks for the quick replies, sounds like the DAC+ light is enough for my purposes then.
Best regards
Kristina
