after changing my amp+ to dac+ none of the pre configured openelec images seem to work. now installed your latest devel, it shows the output as: ALSA: default (snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac analog) shouldnt this be dacplus? it wont give any sound. not even the static noise.
cannot ssh to the pi as it is sitting without internet access atm (could that be it?)

HiFiBerry team If the DAC is configured and not the DAC+, this won't work. However, our preconfigured image is quite old. I would recommend to use the latest OpenElec and configure it by hand.
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff only thing is that i only know how to do it with putty and logging into the pi. but atm i can't. and i used the pre configured file from 2015 january -
HiFiBerry team You can edit the config.txt on your PC. It is located on the FAT partition.
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff that i know. but i only know to add:
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus
dtdebug=1
after that im out of ideas and that alone doesnt work -
HiFiBerry team Without network access it is not possible to debug this further. You need to login to the system somehow. Otherwise it is just guessing.
BTW: Are you using a Raspberry 1 or 2? On the RPI1 you still need to use the old /etc/modules method.
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff got me a wifi bridge+repeater and the pi now gets to connect to the internet.
used the old etc/modules nothing works. cant see the alsa: dacplus or anything. doesn't recognize it at all
anyway i can ssh into it now so help plox :) -
HiFiBerry team ok, check the output of
sudo vcdbg log msg
Does it load the overlay file?
It seems that there are some OpenElec version out with the overlay files missing.
Are you using a Raspberry 1 or 2?
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff pi 1 b openelec: 5.0.8 clean with the etc/modules and config.txt adjusted
gave me the message that i have no permission to see the overlays when i hit flash/overlays.
also aplay doesnt give me any soundcards. so somewhere the driver isnt configured.

HiFiBerry team Ok, they still don't use overlay on the Raspberry 1 :(
001443.087: Kernel trailer DTOK property says no
That means config.txt is useless here.
Please post the output of
cat .config/modules-load.d/hifiberry.conf
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff it says config/modules-load.d/hifiberry.conf: not found
even though it worked before and i did change it. may be that it still isnt writable for some reason? -
Dean Nijhoff i have the dac+ and the amp+. had the dac about 1 year longer. used that fulltime no problem. switched to the amp+ with quite some struggles, but it worked well. now im sitting at a summer house without wanting to use those huge speakers so i installed the dac again. the first year with the dac i used the pre conf 4.1.6, with the amp i started clean with a newer version cause 4.1.6 didnt work for that atm. so since there were new versions now i tried that but nothing i did earlier seems to work -
HiFiBerry team Hi Dean,
the .config directory is always writable. You need to create the modules file there (just name it hifiberry.conf)
OpenElec uses a different file system layout than other distributions.
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff i got a hifiberry.conf it says
snd_soc_bcm2708_i2s
bcm2708_dmaengine
snd_soc_hifiberry_dacplus
still no card found on the pi or aplay -
HiFiBerry team Ok, this looks good so far. Please post the output of
dmesg | grep -i hifiberry
lsmod
BTW: Did you use the DAC+ before with other distributions? If it was never working, it might help to use our HiFiBerry test image to check that the hardware works correctly:
https://www.hifiberry.com/guides/sd-card-images/
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff i only ever used openelec. but it always worked. from starting with the use of 4.1.6 pre configured hifiberry to upgrading to a higher version automatically it was still working

Dean Nijhoff okay so i started over with a brandnew 5.0.8( the last log i sent) followed the 4.x-5.x tutorials. cant select the dac+ -
HiFiBerry team Hi Dean,
di you check with the test image first:
https://www.hifiberry.com/guides/sd-card-images/
On the Raspberry Pi 1 you need to use the 4.x guide, for teh Raspberry Pi 2 the 5.x guide. Which one do you use?
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff the test image does not give sound. at the end it says list of playbackdevices rpi hifiberry dac(not plus) is that right ? -
HiFiBerry team This looks like a hardware problem. Could be the Raspberry Pi or the DAC+. Do you have another Raspberry Pi to test?
Best regards
Daniel -
Dean Nijhoff tried the dac on a new raspberry b+ same results, the soundcard itself is broken. -
HiFiBerry team Hi Dean,
we will replace the DAC. Can you please send us a message with your order number to info@hifiberry.com.
Best regards
Daniel
