Enable / disable Amp+

Hi, I want to switch between Amp+ audio and integrated sound card in my music box, in order to plug wireless headphones.

Is there any way to switch between both cards with a simply script?

And, for a bonus, can the rpi detect if a headphone is plugged into the 3,5 jack?

Finally, what about these speakers for the amp+

  Car speakers are usually optimized for very large boxes. Building your own loudspeakers is quite challanging. I recommend looking for tutorials and construction plans in magazines or on the Internet (just google DIY loudspeakers and you will find a lot of resources).
  
  About switching the output: You would need a script that changes the mpd configuration and restarts it. Check out the mpd.conf file for both configurations, save it and copy it with your script.

  That's why I'm looking for a 25w speakers like the ones in the link.

  Hi Mitu,
  
  you don't have to look for "25W speakers". The power on speakers just say how much power the speaker can accept without being destroyed. If you don't turn the volume up to the maximum, also speakers with 5W are ok. You can also use speakers with a 100W rating without any problems.
  
  About mpd. I'm not an mpd expert. You should check out the documentation: http://www.musicpd.org/

  I've got the Amp+ working but I have problem with the volume.  Also have problem with SSH'ing my RPi2 so I tried to append 

  the following codes in the config.txt but seems it doesn't work.  I'm running Openelec Isengard with ChrisB build (The Beast).Can anyone help me straighten out the code for my config.txt:

  • cat >/storage/.config/modprobe.d/disable-lirc.conf <<EOT
  • blacklist lirc_rpi
  • EOT
  • cat >/storage/.config/modules-load.d/hifiberry.conf <<EOT
  • snd_soc_bcm2709
  • bcm2709_dmaengine
  • snd_soc_hifiberry_amp
  • EOT
  • cat >/storage/.config/autostart.sh <<EOT /usr/bin/amixer sset Master 70% /usr/bin/amixer sset Channels 50%,50% EOT
  • chmod +x /storage/.config/autostart.sh
  • reboot

  The Amp+ seems to be recognized by the computer but the volume is still 100%, I think.

  I appreciate any input.  I'm still new to Linux and RPi.

  Hi Thomas,

  first make sure that you can login using SSH. Most likely your script isn't started correctly. 
  I'm also not sure what you configured. How did you execute the commands above when you can't login to the system?

  Hi Daniel,

  I used Mac to edit (TexEdit) the config.txt from the SD card that I used for my RPI2.  There seems to be a problem with my SSH.

  I used Win 10 Putty but the login froze.  Was able to access SSH when the OpenElec ver was 5.0.8 but with the latest version can't.

  I used VNC in my Mac but I get this  "Not allowed by the Host" error, can't think of anyway to resolve the prob.

  Hi Tom,

  what you posted above are commands that needs to be executed on command line, not things that should go into config.txt
  Without network access it is very hard to do this. Please fix this first. You can use our HiFiBerry installer to install OpenElec:

  I'll  try this again, because several times the program won't continue installing, it doesn't respond to about 70% of the overall.

  I followed your advised and I used my PC to SSH OpenElec and walla it worked perfectly.

  The sounds are good enough for an undiscriminating ears like mine.

  These are modules that go to /etc/modules
  
  However, with the new device tree overlay setup, this isn't needed anymore.

  I tired to shutdown the RPi2 and the Amp+ and when I started it again, it went back to full volume.

  How do you solve this problem?

  Hi Tom,

  edit the file /storage/.config/autostart.sh and adjust the amixer sset statement there.

  I find it very difficult and very inconvenient to vary the volume settings in HifiBerry Amp+ but...

  I discovered something nice, I was able to control the volume from  the Kodi Remote on my iphone.

  This is a Eurika moment for all!
