AMP was working fine with Pi B+ and Raspbian. Tried it with Pi 2. AMP not showing up in aplay -l
tried upgrading previously image with apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, rpi-update and reboot.
also tried downloading latest Raspbian Wheezy image.
what am I doing wrong? this site seems to suggest that it would just work out of the box.

HiFiBerry team Hi Paul,
did you configure it as shown here?
https://www.hifiberry.com/guides/configuring-linux-3-18-x/
Check the commands in the "device not recognised" section.
Best regards

Paul Moorhead great thanks. that sorted it. What's missing from your instructions on upgrading from a Pi, is that as well as the rpi-update step you need to add the line to the config.txt dtoverlay=hifiberry-amp
thanks. -
Paul Moorhead actually... I take it back. aplay -l now displays the hifiberry amp correctly, and mpd appears to play music, but no audio output to my speakers. tried two different pi 2s and 2 different hifiberry AMPs, so I'm still not configured correctly. -
Samuel Darby I had a similar scenario (but with arch linux). Eventually I found that alsamixer showed the main channel was muted. -
Paul Moorhead thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Do the mpd.conf settings change from the Pi 1 values? Does it need a more powerful PSU? -
HiFiBerry team Hi Paul,
the Amp is seen by aplay -l, but you get no sound? What kind if power supply are you using?
What is the output of amixer?
Best regards

Paul Moorhead changed the power supply and it now works. I'm using old Dell laptop power supplies (of which I have many). For some reason one of them can power the Pi + AMP, but with the Pi 2 + AMP, it all appears to work, but no sound. Other similar (but not identical) dell psus are working fine. Figure that one out. Almost like the fact that a photographic flash of the right kind can cause a Pi 2 to reboot.
All seems to be good now thanks. -
HiFiBerry team Thank you for the feedback.
Enjoy your sound!
Daniel
