Hi,
Is it save for the Amp to have no load connected to one channel? or better connect a dummy load.
Background: to build a small active speaker, mono to start with, to act as a tabletop speaker, running picoreplayer.
Thanks,
Huib

HiFiBerry team You can do this without a load. This is no problem for the Amp.

Adam McCartney What about bridging the outputs to one speaker? i have a mono Speaker setup but i cant get squeezelite and alsa to downmix to mono out put? so far my only solution was to connect both outputs to one speaker. It works but before i go and put this in to fulltime use i wanted to check if its going to cause issues and blow up amp+ or speaker. -
hsmeets Something like this did not work to downmix to mono?
pcm.!default makemono
pcm.makemono {
type route
slave.pcm "hw:0"
ttable {
0.0 1 # in-channel 0, out-channel 0, 100% volume
1.0 1 # in-channel 1, out-channel 0, 100% volume
}

Adam McCartney I did try that and many other configurations i found but i failed to get mono only. i had the configuration working with voolumio and MPD but i think it was MPD thatforced the mono downmix and not Alsa.
i've got another one to build so i'll keep trying. -
hsmeets So setting Squeezelite to use pseudo device 'makemono' and having the DigiAmp as slave device did not work? -
Adam McCartney nope.
although i did alot of the software configuration late at night, i'll have another stab when i get my other speaker wired up and my brain is fresh. -
hsmeets Bummer....:-( -
HiFiBerry team You can't connect both outputs in parallel. While the chip itself could handle downmixing to mono, this isn't implemented in the driver today. I'm sorry.

Adam McCartney When you say you cant connect them in parallell,. why is this? i tried it and worked, Will this damage the amp or is it just not advised?

Adam -
HiFiBerry team Yes, this might damage the Amp as both outputs aren't synchronised. This can result in shortages that will damage the Amp.
