Hi,
can anyone tell me how much extra power is required by the amp+ when nothing is playing back?
If anyone has a watt meter and could measure at the wall for the pi+amp+psu that would be great.
Thanks

HiFiBerry team The amplifier itself consumes about 30mA at 12V when not playing anything. Therefore the additional power consumption compared to the Raspberry Pi is minimal. With normal speakers and moderate levels even the power consumption when playing back music is quite low as many speakers can be quite loud with less than 1W power input.

bryanchicken Thanks for the info, appreciated.
Bit of a noob with regards to speaker specs but what are the most important specs to look out for when buying to pair with teh amp+? 4 ohm? 8 ohm? >25W?
I don't want a loud-loud system but something that can fill a decent sized lounge would be great. Ideally cheap. I'm not an audiophile but want something half-decent. -
HiFiBerry team Hi Bryan,
the specs for the speakers are not so important. Almost every speaker will work. Just use a 4-8 Ohm speaker.
As every speaker sounds different I recommend listening to a few and select the pair you like most. If you don't want to spend a lot, used speakers are often a good choice. Check if you have some 2nd hand audio dealer around.
Best regards
Daniel
