Daniel, is it possible to update Kodi installed from your image? As in my case the version
OpenELEC (unofficial) Version: devel-20150120204530-r20072-gc30cb05
OpenELEC git: c30cb058637837f1dc7ec3c54f0644228fd18ab8
works fine, however I would like to update it to 5.0.1, but dunno how :) I tried http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Updating_OpenELEC methods described here (placing tar archive inside ~/update and ~/.update directories && reboot), but none worked.
Have you by any chance disabled the update in your build??

tiroytr Ok, I have managed to update Openelec to 5.0.1 (it was wrong path, nevermind), but now sound is garbled :(
I will move back to hifiberry build. -

I've found that for some strange reason after upgrade I had 2 soundcards! Impossible ;]

And this is quite impossible with RPi, at least when I write this post! ;) So since I have the Digi board, I have manually commented unnecessary modules:

HiFiBerry team Hmm, this should not happen, but it looks like we still have a bug here. Luckily you found a quick workaround.

tiroytr BTW, I was wondering if it would be reasonable to switch to OSMC/Raspbmc for some time. I found one or two movie types being handled better (I mean smoother playback) than on Openelec. What I found is OSMC has no option to control max sampling rate for audio. In case of high density/sampling rate material it may be an issue, especially if your external DAC or home cinema receiver does not handle high samplig rates (as in my case). I have still decent, but a bit old Arcam AVR-280, which accepts SPDIF signal up to 96kHz. Openelec allows me to limit max sampling rate and listen to 24/196 kHz flacs. -
HiFiBerry team It is interesting to see that movie playback is different on OpenElec and XBMC. As far as I know both use the same code without any special patches. I can think of only 2 things that might be responsible for this:
- overclocking: AFAIK Raspbmc/OSMC overclocks by default
- different RAM layout: it is possible that the memory dedicated to the graphics chip is different.
Overclocking can be configured relatively easy in config.txt, you might try this.

tiroytr I would rather say it's the RAM layout (dunno how it is specified in OSMC). I have overclocked Openelec to medium mode:
arm_freq=900
core_freq=333
sdram_freq=450
over_voltage=2
and in general the overall performance is fine but in case of some quite specific movie type (.MOV made using photo camera) the playback is irregular & too fast and results in colorful rectangular regions over the whole picture, while in OSMC it's not present at all and the playback speed is smooth & accurate.
BTW: I have also mounted heat sinks on both chips, cause in case of HiFiberry and overclocked RPi it's crucial I think. Temperatures are good I guess, around 47 deg when idle and up to 53 deg when playing back flacs. -

What is the latest version of Openelect on your latest Openelect for Hifiberry image? Currently, I am on v5.0.8 on my rpi 2B and will getting the AMP+ by this week, cant wait to set up my new hifi set.

ikidzz Received my HifiBerry Amp+, Power supply 18V 3.33A 60W and Rpi2 yesterday. I'm using a 2GB micro SD card with openelec for hifiberry image (150MB). The system hangs on system startup. The sd led just flashes for a few seconds and stop. Waited for about 20mins and only a static colors screen is display but No hifiberry splash screen on my monitor.
Appreciate if you guide me. Tq -
HiFiBerry team The image on our web site will only work with the old Raspberry Pi. You need to download the image for the Raspberry Pi 2 from the OpenElec web site.

arispats i install openelec 5.0.8 and all sound perfect,but i have a problem.when i changed to tv monitor,sound stopped to my speakers,when i turn my tv to hdmi2 where raspberry pi is connected all ok.it's serious for me because i want to hear music from my pi(special radio station) and the same time to see a channel on tv(without sound of course).any advice? -

there are so many distributions out there and they change regularly. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to have up-to-date guides for all of them. We try to provide guides for the distributions that are used by most users, but Berryboot isn't one of them. However you should be able to use the normal OpenElec guide. You only have to find out on which file systems BerryBoot stores the configuration files for OpenElec. The Berryboot developers should be able to answer this question.

I like it and it works, but have a problem...
this distribution has a feature --> onboard sound is disabled
this is cool for listening music on my hifi, but for kids watching cartoons from NAS will be better to use sound from onboard through HDMI direct on TV
Is it possible to turn ON onboard sound (and how)?
before OpenElec I use volumio only for music and was great, but now I need movies and don't want to buy another raspberry for that
so I'd like to have 2 sound output active HifiBerry and onboard at the same time! -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
OpenElec supports only a single sound output. If you want to use the HiFiBerry, onboard sound will be disabled. There seems to be an inofficial release that can output to multiple sound cards:

Dan Aistrup I have with no problem used your OpenElec for HiFiBerry. My hardware are a Pi B, and the HiFiBerry Digi.
But when I update my Openelec to version 5.0.8 there are no sound anymore.
After the update a follow the your guide: https://www.hifiberry.com/guides/openelec-configuration/
The Soundoutput in Kodi 14.2 are: ALSA Default (snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi S/PDIF)

HiFiBerry team I can't say what might be the problem here. I would recommend making a backup of the local database (everything in .kodi) and install a fresh OpenElec 5.x. I'm not sure how good the upgrade from 4.x to 5.x works.

HiFiBerry team Hi Andrii,
if you installed this with our installer, this is a normal OpenElec than can be upgraded as any other OpenElec installation.
Note that we haven't tested this new version and we can't guarantee that it will work without problems. You have to try by yourself and see if everything runs smooth. As always, I would recommend a backup before upgrading.Best regards
