Hi
I have only just assembled my HIFI Berry analog( not digi) after purchasing it some months ago.
I am not able to get sound from the HIFI berry jack.
I'm using Volumio ver 1.4.
Without the HiFI berry I can get sound from onboard with volumio and also Open elec
With Volumio, after installing I2S driver on GUI , alsa -l does detect the DAC as below:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpipcm5102a [snd_rpi_pcm5102a], device 0: PCM5102A HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
But no sound from HIFIBerry jack.
As per advice in the forum, I checked continuity on the self soldered P5 header with multimeter. It seems OK.
I want to do the voltage test but am clueless as to where to put the red and black probes.
The advice is black to the negative of P3--QUESTION:is this the GND of the P3?( last after the square pin?)
The red to C10 and C12 at a time. QUESTION:Are these the C10 and C12 points on the Pi board to the left of the HDMI socket? These seem to have 2 ends ( C10 has ?2 ends) so which do I use for the red prob tip or does it not matter?
QUESTION: Do I do the voltage check with the HIFI Berry fixed to the pi or off?
Grateful for any advice.
Many thanks
A S

HiFiBerry team Dear AS,
please check the sound output first with our test image from here:
http://www.hifiberry.com/guides/sd-card-images/
This helps to see if it is only a configuration problem or a hardware problem. If it does not work: Do you have another Raspberry Pi to test? We have heard from some customers where the traces to the P5 header on the Raspberry Pi board itself were broken.
Best regards

A Simon Hi Daniel
Many thanks for your quick reply. Yes I had tried the Testtoneimage. But unfortunately I did not get any sound or a display on the TV( normal boot text lines). I redownloaded the image and tried again --same result. LED lights on Pi all looked normal.
ANYWAY: I found the problem--It was the P5 header stack/pins.On mounting the DAC the black female GPIO and P5 sockets would not engage fully on pressing down the DAC on to the pins. Being newbie I thought this partial attachement(it went about 50% of the length of the prongs) was normal.BUT this resulted in no contact with some of the pins on continuity check with the DAC .In addition the Black female socket had forced down one of the pins down the pi's board so it was about 30% shorter than the other P5 prongs!!I could not pull that prong back to level it with the rest--tried hard. After poking the Black female sockets with a needle to widen it I was able to push the DAC down fully to ensure contact( ie the black plastic bits on the DAC and PI now touch-almost).This restored contact on the shorter Prong.
It now works. Hope this helps someone else.( Check solders and also the fit of the black sockets)
Sorry to have wasted your time. Thank you very much for you hard work and great products.
Regards
A S
