Hi!
I wonder will the amp be available for Raspberry PI B, B+ or both?

HiFiBerry team At the moment we're testing the version for Raspberry Pi model B. B+ needs a completely different design, therefore this won't be available soon. We will first launch the Amp for model B. B+ models will follow later.

federico.scarsi Daniel,
I am really interested in this project because I am looking for a similar solution since at least 1,5 years.
I built a new house and in each room I have setup a wall box where both cat6 and 2x1,5 red/black cables arrive, and from that audio cables go to loudspeakers wall mounted as well.
But my home automation system company proposes to me a complex and expensive solution while I am so happy with Openelec and Raspberry.
My problem was to fit both raspberry and an amplifier in that box, for dimensions issues but also because Raspberry works with +5V while any acceptable amp needs 12V at least. And I have only 2 cables. Any tricky solution with chinese Volt step down...I don't like.
So I am so happy to hear from HiFiBerry this solution, but 2 questions :
1) does it work with Openelec ? (sorry if this is OT)
2) why are you still testing with Raspberry B while it is on the market now B+ ?
Especially for question 2, I understand the necessary additional effort, but I think you will lose a lot of commercial opportunities as I am not convinced to continue to buy model B just to use this HiFiberry Amp.
Anyway, just a suggestion from my side, but I would prefer to wait some more and get amp for B+ (and no soldering...) instead of having right now something that I can apply only to B.
Thanks,
looking forward for the first amp available to buy !

HiFiBerry team Dear Frederico,
there will be a version for model B+ at some time. However it needs a complete redesign and this will take some time. We also still see demand from people that already own a Raspberry Pi model B.
It will work with OpenElec in the future. The driver will be included in the standard Raspberry Pi Linux kernel in the next time, after this support on most major distributions will follow soon.

Edouard HUBIN Hi Hifiberry team.
Congrats for releasing this great new product!
Now that the B version is out and seems very succesful, do you have an idea about the release date for the B+ version?
I have one lying around which I would be really keen to convert to an amplifier ;-)
Keep up the great work

HiFiBerry team At the moment I can only say thay we finalized the design. We will test it in the next weeks. After this we can say more about the planned release date. We plan to release it still in this year.

hifi Will it be possible to connect any other GPIO module after
installing AMP for RaspberryPi B+? For example in Digi+
you have some holes next to the GPIO connector where you
can potentially install another connector. Do you plan
anything like that for new AMP? I'd like to connect LCD
in addition to the AMP (for example using 26 or 40-pin
cable) and thinking how I could easily do that.
Thanks! -
hifi Do you plan to use any new GPIO pins from 40-pin connector
for new AMP other than "old" 26 pins?
Thanks! -
HiFiBerry team Yes, the B+ version will use different pins as the I2S pins have moved to the 40pin GPIO connector.

Daniel -
federico.scarsi Daniel,
with B+ version is soldering still necessary ?
Thx
Federico -
HiFiBerry team No, the B+ version just plugs onto the 40pin connector. No soldering is needed. -
federico.scarsi Great !
I would be so happy to buy for Xmas.... :-)
Thanks! -
federico.scarsi Will be also available a case ?
Thanks again -
HiFiBerry team I think, we will be able to modify our case that it also works for the Amp.

hifi Daniel,
Could you answer the question regarding connecting another boards
to GPIO if AMP was installed already (see my question above)?
Depending on your answer I'll either buy Digi+ or I'll wait for
new AMP.
Thanks. -
HiFiBerry team Dear hifi,
it is not planned to allow stacking other boards on top of the Amp. As the Raspberry Pi GPIOs are not designed as a bus system, stacking won't work smoothly in many situations. Therefore connecting additional GPIOs is something for people that really know the low-level electronics stuff and the implications also on the software. You can solder cables to some of the unused GPIOs if you need a few pins (e.g. for an IR sensor). There are plenty of unused GPIOs available.

Tobias Scharmann Hi there,
do you already have more info on when the AMP for B+ will be available?
I read later this year and that's not all that long anymore.
Regards, Tobias -
HiFiBerry team We're still in the test phase. However I can say, that we're almost there...
I will give a date when it is finally tested and we have confirmed the shipping date with our manufacturing partner.

cdc Hi,
Any news on the release date (or maybe pre-release date for the followers) for the B+ version?
Thx,
Chris -
HiFiBerry team The Amp+ is still in production, expect news about next week.

Gottfried H. Hi,
I am also interested in Hifi-Berry Amp for Raspberry B+.
Would be a christmas-present to me.
Hope it is coming soon:-)
Can you tell me, if the new model for B+ is compatible with OpenElec 4.2?
Can I connect two Visaton DL10 8Ohm speackers (30 Watt)?
Best regards,
Gottfried -
HiFiBerry team Dear Gottfried,
we haven't tested OpenElec yet. While the driver should be included, configuration of XBMC based distributions is often a bit of complicated. If you're using it for music distribution, I would recommend an audio-only distribution.
Connecting two 8 Ohm speakers should work perfectly.
Best regards
Daniel -
federico.scarsi Daniel,
is any of the existing case for sales in your shop fitting the new Raspberry B+ with amp ?
If not, are you preparing anything ?
Thanks
Federico -
HiFiBerry team Dear Frederico,
we will offer a new side plate for our HiFiBerry case+ later. However we have to design and produce this first. This will take some time. We hope to have this available in January.
Best regards
Daniel
