My Hifiberry Digi appears to be DOA. I have tried your image and aplay -l returns no soundcards. There is no sign of life from the card and a quick grep of dmesg returns:
snd-hifiberry-digi snd-hifiberry-digi.0: ASoC: failed to instantiate card -1 snd-hifiberry-digi snd-hifiberry-digi.0: snd_soc_register_card() failed: -1
snd-hifiberry-digi: probe of snd-hifiberry-digi.0 failed with error -1
Can you advise of return arrangements please.
Thanks
Derek

HiFiBerry team Hi Derek,
let's check first if this is really a hardware problem. Does the green LED on the board light up?
Best regards
Daniel -

I have seen no LED's lit :(

derekqwilson Also, I thought I'd take another look this morning, so I re-soldered everything to the board (having removed it on Saturday). I should point out that I'm being an idiot here and it's a DAC, not a digi.....
Anyway, today I made progress:
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I believe subdevices should read 1/1.

HiFiBerry team So it is working now? The DAC does not have an LED.
Best regards

derekqwilson I'm afraid not. It is absolutely not working.
I have tested both with my Squeezeplug build and your test image.
I have de-soldered the optional components ready for returning the board to you.

HiFiBerry team Hi Derek,
you can send it back to us. Note that all boards have been tested in production. Therefore it is relatively unlikely that the board itself has a problem. We will check it here. If the board is defective, we will replace it.
Are you sure you have tested it with the DAC test image not the Digi test image?
Best regards

derekqwilson Hi Daniel
I couldn't be more sure that I've tested with the DAC image. Please note that I've used a hot iron to de-solder the optional components. I can see that 1 track has lifted to the 3.5mm jack socket, although I tried the DAC image before this and also with the phono plugs. I did not try to use both simultaneously as per your instructions.
I have followed your instructions exactly as written and have been soldering for 40 years. I use a temperature regulated solder station and for the last 5 years have been using lead-free solder so the process has been hotter than I'd like. This is why tracks have lifted during the de-soldering process.

Can I have the return address please? I can't seem to find the jiffy bag that the board arrived in.

derekqwilson Hi Daniel
Just to say thanks for the swift turn-around of my dead DAC. The replacement board worked straight away with my existing software. It sounds pretty good too!

Derek
