I have installed the test image for the HifiBerry Digi.
The images does see the Digi but when I play a sound with aplay I get an error:
aplay: pcm_write:1710: write error: Input/output error.
When I run aplay -l he sees the HifiBerry digi.

HiFiBerry team Hi Jimmy,
this could be a problem with the data connection on the P5 header. Please check the soldering of the P5 connector on the Raspberry. Use a multimeter to check that there is a good connection between the P5 on the Raspberry and the Digi.
Best regards
Daniel -
Jimmy Dom Ok that was it tnx.
Now when I start the test image for the Digi i get a annoying beep in my speakers :). This evening my first movie with great sound. -
Jimmy Dom The problem isn't solved. The test image does work. But when I install RaspBian the modules are loaded and HifiBerry is found but can't play anything on the HifiBerry.

HiFiBerry team What happens if you playpack something with mplayer? -
Jimmy Dom When I play music with mplayer I got this error:
Away.mp3 > test
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

[AO SDL] Unable to open audio: No available audio device

HiFiBerry team This seems to be a problem with the mplayer installation that does not support MP3 decoding. Have anybody seen this before? -
HiFiBerry team Looks like somebody had this problem before:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7107&p=121986
Try, if this works:
mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw FILE
Solution seems to be to configure ALSA:
----------------
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
---------------- -
Jimmy Dom Also when i see into the Toslink output I doesn't see a red light. So my receiver can't get any input of the HifiBerry. And with the test image I see a red light all time. -
HiFiBerry team Did you test it with the command line shown above? -
Jimmy Dom I did test it with the command that you gave me.
But it didn't work.
I have installed the test image and i use that one now without any problems.
Tnx for the support. -
Mikael Wikman Hey I got the same issue running check-systems.dac. Using the latest RaspBmc
All modules are loaded.
It hangs for a little while, then print:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi], device 0: HifiBerry Digi HiFi wm8804-spdif-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
aplay: pcm_write:1710: write error: Input/output error
Looking in the other end of the TOSLINK cable, there's no red light.
It doesn't show up in xbmc settings either - just analoge and HDMI. Although, the very first time I started XBMC the option did appear.
I have verified that the soldering of P5 connector is well done using a multimeter.
Running "mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw FILE", I get this:
MPlayer svn r34540 (Debian), built with gcc-4.6 (C) 2000-2012 MPlayer Team

Gangadhar N Hello Guys,
I face same issue - aplay: pcm_write:1947: write error: Input/output error. Please let me know if you've found solution for this.

-
HiFiBerry team Hi,
this usually means that there is already another process using the sound card.
Best regards
Daniel -
Gangadhar N Hi,
In my case, it was because of using wrong interrupt number for codec.
Regards,
Gangadhar
-
HiFiBerry team Hi,
what exactly do you mean by "using wrong interrupt number"?
Best regards
Daniel
