I got my HifiBerry Digi working on a Pi Model B connected via SPDIF to a Musical Fidelity VDAC and Volumio 1.2 as a Distribution.
Setup works fine with all files with a maximum sampling frequency of 96 kHz. Sound (did I really say sound?) is horrible when playing files sampled at 176,4 or 192 kHz. It's just distortion.
Connected the Pi via Ethernet to the NAS. Tested the NAS before and it had no problems supplying 2 connected audio players with hi-res digital audio and one connected video player with a HD Video with no drops (measured bandwith was ~ 20 MBit).
Pi is powered up with a standard powersupply @ 1.5 A.
Any hints?
Which info do you need from me to troubleshoot this issue?

Klaus

HiFiBerry team Hi Klaus,
do you use the optical or the RCA link?
Best regards

HiFiBerry team Hi Daniel,
I use the RCA link.
Same DAC works fine when feeded by my laptop via a m2tech hiface usb -> digital out interface. I've just reconnected the DAC to the PI

HiFiBerry team Hi Klaus,
it could be an incompatibility of the Digi and your DAC. It can also be a hardware problem. I'm not exactly sure what's the reason for it. Do you have any other DACs to test with?
Best regards

HiFiBerry team Unfortunately not yet.
Tested the Pi also with a 2 A power supply, no difference. Could it be a problem with a noisy power supply?

HiFiBerry team Hi Klaus,
in this case the only option I can offer is sending the Digi to us and we will check it here.

HiFiBerry team Hi Klaus
I have a similar setup and also experienced random 'clicks' just when playing 192/24 files. Interestingly enough the clicks continued even after the music finishes and only stopped after playing a lower resolution file or rebooting. They aren't very loud and only happen two or three times a minute.
I tried switching to the toslink interface but this didn't cope with anything remotely challenging,it sounded like a kids sparkler during the high notes.
What did resolve the problem for me was replacing the USB power adapter with a battery. I just used a cheap 2500mAh 'portable phone charger' rechargeable battery, about the size of a Mars bar. I now have a much larger 'portable laptop charger' battery ordered which I intend to power the Raspberry Pi/HiFi Berry and my DAC. Batteries appear to provide much cleaner power than cheap AC switching power supplies.
The battery didn't make any difference to the toslink but I now have perfect 192/24 over the spdif coax.
Calvin.
