HifiBerry not Standard Output on RaspXBMC -> How to Change?

All soldered and I have done the ./check-system.dac check successfully (sound is played)

How do I switch the output to the Hifiberry?

  According the the RaspBMC developer this should work. However, we don't have a guide yet and I can't tell you right now. We will look into this in the next time. I can't tell you, when we will have a guide available.

  Seemingly, any nightly build of RaspBMC until (and including) 20140428 does not allow to switch to Hifiberry (at least for me). As soon as you take at least the Gotham RC1 equivalent (on Sunday it was called Gotham Raspbmc Release, to be found at the bottom of installable nightly builds - use plug-in Raspbmc-settings to get there).
  
  As Gotham was released Sunday there's a chance that the problem will be solved by a "simple" RaspBMC update (did you switch on the automatic updates?).

  I did the update ... now I can switch to the Hifiberry PLUS now there comes nothing out of it anymore :(
  
  Even the ./check-system.dac gives no output (plus no error) with frodo I got an output signal
  
  The noise on the earplug jack is even getting worser (maybe a problem of the powersupply, if habe to verify this fact).

  The current Raspbmc release works, but you should NOT download a nightly update. Just use the latest Raspbmc release without updating anything.

  What bothered me a lot was that XBMC multiple times did not really switch but rebooted - and then the audio output was set to HDMI. I didn't count the times that happened but it annoyed me... Is there a chance that this happened to you as well?
  
  But from what daniel said - it seems to work now.

  I had a problem with a crash only once.
  According to Sam Nazarko it should even work without /etc/modules, but I haven't tested this yet.

  The update was made by the system itself, so it should be the offiziel new release. I have got no clue that it is the nightly build
