Hello, I just ruined my brand new DAC+ by desoldering the header and installing a stackable one. I'm fairly good at soldering, I spend all day trying to do it right. it all looked very promising, connections all good, measured with multimeter. voltages are all there but its really dead..
could it maybe have gotten too hot??
are there any plans on selling headless DAC+s like the formal DAC? or maybe sell a stackable version?
Thanks for all the great products!

DCLXVI I fixed it :), there was a little bit copper on the isolator bar of the strackable header that shortcutted the i2c pins.
but I would still really be happy with headless DAC+! -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
we had too much trouble with the DIY version and a lot of damaged boards therefore we won't offer these anymore. However you can solder another 40pin male header to the board. It is connected in parallel to the original 40 pin header.
Best regards

DCLXVI Ok I understand. Yes the 40 pin breakout is great but I wanted to keep things aligned so it could fit a pibow case with a piTFT, 3 extra layers and the new piTFT+ top from pomoroni. I did use the secundairy header of the DAC+ to hook up an IR sensor led. Also I soldered a normal height header to the piTFT which is resting on two 11mm spacers attached to the hifiberry DAC+ which on its turn rests on 2 8mm spacers to fitthe pibow case. There's a #18 trace/solder pad on the back of the piTFT you can cut with something sharp, and I soldered a wire from one side of the solder pad to a free pin on the secundairy header of the piTFT so I can still turn the backlight on and off. I'm really happy with the results. -
HiFiBerry team Hi,
is this a Raspberry Pi + HiFiBerry DAC + display?
Best regards

DCLXVI yes it is :)
its the 3.5mm DAC+ and capacative piTFT+. I will make better pics in daylight tomorrow if you want. -
Justin Shell I Just found this post and I would LOVE more info/pictures of it!
Great work! -
DCLXVI Thanks!!! :)
I will make more pictures tomorrow in daylight. I uploaded a video a few days ago to demonstrate/document my software so far. But I cant get my camera to get the colors right. The colors in the picture above are much more accurate. Anyway here's the video I will post a better colored one later. -
DCLXVI Here's some pics of one of my modified DAC+'s:
Personally I'm totally in love with this cutie Pi (rpi A+/DAC+/2.4"pitft):
more pics of the pibow case will follow soon when I get it back. And I hope to finish my AMP+ radio soon, what this software was meant for in the first place. -
Neil Dennis I love this build. I know it is an old thread, but can anyone give me some advice as to how to solder a 2x20 pin header on top of the existing one? Was it done like this...
