no toslink digital audio with RBPi 2B and digi+

Hi all,

I've just bought myself a new RBPi 2B with a hifiberry digi+ board, installed everything, followed the installation & configuration instructions on the site/forum.
In my openelec 5.04 I've setup the audio output to point to snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi.
My JVC receiver is connected via TOSLink optical to the hifiberry, I see the red 'laser' light come out of the interface of the hifiberry.
Now the problem starts, when I play a movie I can see my JVC switch to DD51 or DTS depending on the audio stream within the movie coming from the RBPi/hifiberry. But there is no sound coming from my JVC/speakers.

Am I missing something? what is wrong, please help :-)

  just some more information, my openelec is configured like this:
  
  Audio output device: ALSA: Default (snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi S/PDIF)
  Limit sampling rate khz : 48.0
  enable Passthrough: enabled
  passthrough output device: ALSA: Default (snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi S/PDIF)
  dolby digital (AC3) capable receiver: enabled
  DTS capable receiver: enabled
  
  i've rebooted, I've replaced the power supply withA 5.2V/2.0A - 10 Watt adapter.
  
  what else is wrong?

  What about normal system sounds? Do these work with your receiver?

  I hear no sound at all.
  
  just downloaded the "Test tone for HiFiBerry DAC/DAC+/Digi/Digi+" image, installed it on a new SD card.
  this boots up and starts playing the file, I can see fom the TV, but I still do not hear any sound at all.
  
  Also, in reply to your question, no I do not hear any system sounds.
  
  do you need some commands to be run?

  Do you use the optical or electrical output. Can you try the other one?

  I'm currently using the optical connection, already tried a diffirent cable but this did not help, and because the connection to the receiver is OK because the receiver detects the stream (ie DTS) I do not think it is a cable issue.
  
  I will try to use the RCA connection and see if this works.

  i've tried a COAX cable from the RP2B to my receiver but still no audio during playback and no audio navigating in the menu's.
  
  The optical cable is OK because I've connected it to my digital TV settop box and my JVC receiver, and it gives me audio. Also the JVC receiver is setup correctly because I can hear audio through the optical and electrical cable coming from my JVC receiver.
  
  very strange problem. do you have any other tips or ideas?

  Hi,
  
  as written in the other topic, this looks like an incompatibility between the board and your receiver. We can replace the board, but there is a good chance that another board also won't work. As this topic is now being discussed in two places, please answer in the other topic, otherwise it is quite hard for us to follow the conversation.

  Hi all,
  i have same problem RBPi2 and DIGI+ and Yamaha DSP A2. On display apear message Input data ERR for Optical and for coax too... Open elec 5.0.5 config file set. I already tested with your hifberry image with same result. Thanks for any help. David

  Hi David,
  
  if you're receiver doesn't accept the data from the Digi, unfortunately we can't do anything about it. You can return the Digi and we will refund it (if you bought it in our online shop). We have seen rare issues with DACs and receivers from the 1990s, this seems to be one of these cases here.

  and this is problem with 20bit DAC on Yamaha site (MFD 2002)? Because by passthrow DTS original stream from TV to this recv. is without any problem and everything work fine? Thanks for answer.

  unfortunately I can't say what's causing this problem. As we don't have this receiver here, we can't test different configurations. It could be a problem of 24bit signals, but this is just a guess.

  I've just tried this same optical input into YAMAHA DSP A2.
  and source was Extreamer Wonder (flac 16 bit 44,1 and passthrought movie in DTS and AC3) - optical SPDIF... and everythink works well.

  My Hifiberry is also not working with my DSP-A2. I'm using Volumio, both digital outputs are causing the "INPUT DATA ERROR".
  In the Manual they write "A nonstandardized source is played back, or the unit playing back a source is misoperating."

  I resolve this problem with external USB sound card. Nobody can help me with hifiberry card. :(
  Alsa driver works perfect with openelec and sound blaster x-fi 5.1, no additonal configuration needed (only in config you must turn on additional power for usb 100mA is not enought for this sound card. And You have same quality and also analog output :)...

  Ok so i read the team has made a driver change but when will it be implemented and how do i know it has been ?
  
  Plus can i buy the version with the transformers since its the only one in stock ? No additional cable ??

  The DSP-A2 has been tested here and it works now. The driver will be available soon as it is already merged into the Raspberry Pi kernel. However we do not control when the Raspberry Pi foundation releases firmware upgrades. Therefore it can take some days or even weeks until it is available via rpi-update.
  
  The Digi+ transformer and standard should be in stock again beginning of next week.
