Hi,
This may be more of a software question but not sure exactly how the DAC works...I have my raspberry pi with HifBerry hooked up to a set of logitech surround speakers that are verrry loud. Is it better / does it make any difference to keep the raspberry pi vol low and use the speakers amp to adjust or keep the speakers low and use the raspberry pi vol control? ie does any quality get lost at very low volumes on the pi/dac?
Thanks

HiFiBerry team Hi Rob,
is depends a bit on the design of your speakers. If they have a traditional volume potentiometer, it might be the best option to reduce the volume there. If there is a digital volume control in these speakers, reducing the volume on the DAC+ might be better.
This has an impact on the noise. If you don't hear any noise with both options, that's fine. Just go for the one that works better for you. Otherwise just use the version that produces less noise (in general noise should be very low and audible only if you hold your ear directly onto the speakers).
Best regards

Rob Gardner Thanks Daniel - it has digital volume control so will play around with the info you gave me.
Cheers,
Rob
